Her Secret Daughter by Ruth Logan Herne is such a beautifully written story about the strength of the love mothers have for their children. And in this story, about the deep love a particular birth mother, Josie, has for the baby she gave up for adoption 6 years earlier.

Josie truly wanted a happy family and a healthy, happy life for her baby girl. A desire she thought she had filled, including when she saved her daughters’ life at 3 with an organ transplant at the request of the adoptive mother. Thus, fast forward a few more years and Josie is extremely shocked when this little girl shows up with the very hotel employee who is taking Josie’s beloved restaurant from her- and the little girl calls this man Daddy. This immediately sets Josie into a search to find out what came of her daughter’s adoptive parents.

Josie starts feeling tormented that her little girl is so close by and that she cannot reveal her true identity. Yet, Josie sees just how happy and loved Addie is with Jacob, her new adoptive father. Josie doesn’t have the heart to disrupt this, even when she learns disturbing facts about the original adoption. And, Josie quickly realizes that Jacob truly seems to be the kindest man she’s ever known. Josie’s unselfishness and strong love for her daughter, and Jacob’s kindness and humor and devotion to Addie, made this story such a pleasure to read. Ruth Logan Herne continues to demonstrate that she is a gifted storyteller, as the characters seemed so real and identifiable.

To find out what will happen for Josie, Jacob and Addie, and whether the truth will be revealed, I invite fellow readers to pick up a copy of Her Secret Daughter.

Josie Gallagher has plenty of reasons to be wary of Jacob Weatherly—considering he’s working for the hotel chain that’s forcing her restaurant to close. But when he shows up there with a little girl by his side—her little girl—she’s dismayed. How has this bachelor wound up with custody of the baby Josie placed with a married couple six years ago? The handsome hotel executive has no idea that Addie is Josie’s biological child, and Josie can’t afford to tell him. As he helps save her business, Josie and Jacob unexpectedly grow closer. But will her secret stand in the way of their happily-ever-after?
