In Hometown Homicide by Denise N. Wheatley, rookie officer Nia Brooks has been paired with veteran police officer Drew Taylor, who is currently leading the investigation into the murders of two women. This case could make Drew’s career, and he has no desire to be paired up with a rookie. As the case progresses, Drew realizes that Nia’s determination and insights are an asset to the case.

As things heat up with the case, so do things between Drew and Nia. But the killer soon has his sights on another victim. Can the pair solve the case before Nia’s sister, or even Nia herself, becomes the next victim?

This book is filled with plenty of action that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The author does a good job of keeping readers guessing who the killer is and what their motives may be. The romance is also enjoyable, and the relationship between Drew and Nia develops at a realistic rate. The romance doesn’t overshadow the suspense; instead, it blends in seamlessly and enhances the story.

If you’re looking for a gripping, page-turning suspense with a romance between co-workers mixed in, Hometown Homicide is a book for you. While this is the fourth book in the West Coast Crime Story series, it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the previous books in the series, but didn’t feel like I had been missing anything by not having read them.
