In Honor’s Price (Warriors of the Mist #3) by Alexis Morgan, Kane is one of the Damned who answer to the Lord and Lady of the River. Immortal, honorable and fighting against evil, the Damned do have rules to follow and a code of conduct. They might be immortal and answer to the gods, but they have Hprivery human characteristics that make them easy to relate to as people.

Kane is one of the Warriors of Mist. He feels the darkness at times, but fights it, unwilling to give in to an evil legacy given to him by his grandfather. Kane is one of two Warriors who are sent to save the Kingdom of Agathia from a Duke and his evil. To do this, he must infiltrate the Duke’s guards and gain his trust. This happens quicker than he expects. Also unexpected for Kane is the attraction he feels towards Lady Theda, the Duke’s sister in law, widow to his brother. Lady Theda trusts few, and definitely does not trust the Duke. She lives in fear of what he can do not only to her, but to Agathia. Somehow though, she knows she can trust Kane.

Secretly meeting, neither of them can stop what they feel or want from the other, despite the danger and uncertain future. Can they save Agathia even if they can’t have a future together? When the one person Kane has found love with is in danger, he is willing to risk everything to save her. This once dark magic might be the savior, but can Kane risk it? Saving her might also save Agathia…but not himself.

Honor’s Price is a fast paced fantasy romance. Alexis writes with flare and her ability to draw me into a world of magic and fantasy, imagining living there, seeing it in my minds eye was fantastic! I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially Kane and Lady Theda. Kane is honorable and strong, with a past he has struggled to over come. Lady Theda is strong and brave, living at the Duke’s mercy, but carrying on in her own heroic way. I really liked how Alexis brought Kane and Theda together, and how these two characters accepted and acted on their feelings towards one another without any of the angst often seen in contemporary romance. It was refreshing and made how fast they got together more believable and ok. I liked the relationship that quickly developed between them, the openness and acceptance, and what each of them stood for. I couldn’t wait to see what happened to the relationship they’d started to develop.

I really enjoyed the fantasy of Honor’s Price, and of the gods. I found I really liked them – that there was no black or white with them, but many different shades and situational dependence. They seemed to be more open minded than some of the Damned!

I have not read the other books in this trilogy, but was easily able to read and follow the characters in Honor’s Price without confusion. Alexis gives enough background with out overdoing it and moves quickly into the main plot of Honor’s Price.

I have not read a lot of fantasy romance, but Alexis made me want more. I would recommend Honor’s Price as a great one to either start reading fantasy romance or to add to your list of favorites.

Cursed by the gods. Bound by brotherhood. Freed by love.

The Warriors of the Mist have fought side by side for centuries, but Kane alone has felt something darker calling to him. With the Kingdom of Agathia on the brink of rebellion, Kane knows that relying on dark magic to infiltrate the enemy’s court is dangerous but necessary despite the cost to his soul.

Lady Theda hopes to end the tyrannical reign of Duke Keirthan, the man who killed his own brother—Theda’s husband. But she has little hope of succeeding, until a mage-marked warrior appears.

For the first time in centuries, Kane is tempted not by dark magic, but by a woman who wants more than his protection. But with both of their hearts—and her people’s lives—in jeopardy, giving in to their passion may be a risk too great to take…
