REVIEW: I Saw Her Standing There by Marie Force

In I Saw Her Standing There (Green Mountain #3) by Marie Force, New York city girl Lucy and Vermont mountain man Colton have been ISHSTsharing some very steamy weekends ever since they met in Vermont. Lucy’s best friend Cameron relocated there when she fell for Colton’s brother. Unable to resist each other, Colton and Lucy have a secret fling. Lucy is the one who wants to keep things secret. With her own business in New York and no plans to relocate, she does not want to become emotionally involved with Colton. She might not have a choice though…

Colton has lived a fairly isolated existence running his family’s maple sugaring operation. He lives alone, fairly primitively, even if he would not lack for female companionship if he chose. Since Lucy came into his life though, he’s had no desire for anyone else. The weekends they steal together sizzle, and they get to know each other very well. Colton soon finds himself wanting more, wanting to end the secrecy…and when they are ‘discovered’, it is a relief for him.

Both of them care a lot for each other, but they both have different ideas of what the future can hold. Lucy wants to end it all before she becomes too involved, before someone gets hurt. Colton wants to see where this thing they’ve found will go. Can they come to a happy medium and make things work? What would that kind of relationship look like for them? Or will Lucy run away as fast as her feelings are growing?

Lucy and Colton are opposites attracting in a really big way. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and there is a lot of sex in I Saw Her Standing There. Understandably, since they only have the weekends together, that is much of what they do. Which is good, but it got a bit much to be reading about them having sex all the time. Lucy was a bit hard to understand at times, and I never really understood fully why she was so afraid of having a relationship. At the same time though I liked how Marie subtly works in Lucy’s ADD and other real life issues, making the plot line more believable, the characters more realistic. Marie describes Colton perfectly…I can picture him in all his muscular mountain man glory very easily! He is patient and caring, has come to love Lucy and is not afraid to admit it. I was very intrigued to see if Colton and Lucy would be able to work it out. The inner conflict and struggles both of them face are written well and bring Colton and Lucy to life.

I liked the relationships both of them had with other people, especially their families in I Saw Her Standing There. They are mature, positive relationships that add strength to the plot. I liked that there was no angst or family issues clogging up Lucy and Colton’s story.

I Saw Her Standing There can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend reading the first two books just because they are so good! I enjoyed catching up with previous characters, from Fred the moose to Colton’s Grandpa Elmer. Marie writes a great cast of entertaining characters, making it easy to feel like part of the family…or wishing you were!

Marie easily drew me in with her smooth writing and fast flowing plot. If you like small town romance with great characters I’d recommend I Saw Her Standing There.

There’s a budding romance on Butler Mountain, but in the hornets’ nest known as the Abbott family, keeping a secret is no easy feat…

Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney have a secret. Colton’s nosy siblings have begun to put the pieces together, but it’s not like Lucy to keep things from those closest to her—especially her best friend, Cameron, who recently moved to Vermont to live with her true love, Will. But Lucy isn’t about to tell Cam she’s having a fling…with Will’s brother.

Flitting between New York and Vermont is exhausting, so Lucy is looking forward to a long weekend with Colton at the Abbott family lake house in Burlington. Too bad Will and Cameron have the same idea, and once Colton and Lucy are caught red-handed (and red-faced), will their clandestine romance lose its appeal or will their secret beginnings be the start of something lasting?
