Keeping Secrets by Fiona Brand: People always think they know how much of themselves they should be sharing with others, but does there come a point where it’s too late?

Zara Westlake was a honest person with an honest heart, but she knew that if people knew the truth they would judge her and most would find her wanting. She just couldn’t deal with that so she did what she could, shared what she trusted and moved forward with her life. The problem came when she didn’t remember to take something with her, her heart, and she didn’t fully realize it until it came back for her.

Damon Smith had his reasons for behaving the way he had. Never one to complain he had a pretty rough upbringing and while his father was now dead Damon had never really gotten over the first ten years of hell he had lived through. He was stuck in the paralyzing fear of what could be, while being the protector of what was. The wall around his heart impenetrable, until the one he couldn’t seem to forget.

Zara and Damon knew an affair was not a smart idea for very different reasons, but once it was done it was unforgettable, ever. When Zara disappears will Damon have the courage to go after her? Or will it take fear of another sort to bring them together?

Ms. Brand has done some interesting plot twists with this one and has made it incredibly interesting and catching. Damon’s alphaness is well written as is the courage and alphaness that is Zara. It’s encouraging to not know what is coming around every corner. This is a book that is about dealing with the past and allowing the future to play out. If you enjoy strong male leads who are uber dense but finally figure it out with a swift kick to the heart, this one is for you.
