Last of the Red Hot Riders by Tina Leonard: I can’t put my finger on what exactly caused it, but this book fell flat for me. I think part of it was the characters. We have Cameron, determined to become a bull fighter but who wants to own a special-needs equestrian academy. Then suddenly she wants to become a police officer for the town of Hell. Then she’s back to working on becoming a bull fighter. And somewhere along the way we lose the dream of owning the equestrian academy. There was no further mention of it or of what she was doing to works towards the goal. She was just as wishy-washy with her feelings about Saint. There’s a constant push-pull going on that left me tired.
Then there’s Saint, who wants Cameron but doesn’t want her to become a bull fighter because it’s dangerous and it’s a man’s job. He doesn’t want her to become a police officer for the same reasons. He comes across as being a little bit sexist. There comes a point when Cameron says she needs to leave Hell to go to her family. Instead of admitting his feelings he lets her go, all while wallowing in self pity. I would have liked to see him fight for her, but he never really does at any point during this story.
I get that the name of the town was Hell, and there were a couple of amusing quips about it, but it was overused. It seemed like every other page or so we’re reminded that the town is called Hell. The word hell was also used in a few sentences, not in reference to the town. It became redundant. By the time I finished, I was Hell’d out.
Last of the Red Hot Riders by Tina Leonard is the second book in the series, and I would highly recommend reading the first one, Last of the Red-Hot Cowboys, first. I did not read the first story, and that was also part of the issue. There are several references made to the couple from the first book that I didn’t understand since I had not read it. I’m also left wondering if it would have given me a better background of the town itself, as well as the other secondary characters because I was left with questions about them.

Cameron Dix knows that becoming an elite rider is the first step to realizing her dream: owning a special-needs equestrian academy. Only one thing stands in her way—and he’s big, tall, and sizzles like a Texas steak. Superhunk Saint Markham claims that he isn’t happy about all the women galloping into town, but the heat in his eyes tells Cameron a different story. What else can a fiery redhead do but let her hair down and give in to desire hot enough to melt her saddle?
Saint has seen what happens when women come marching into the Hell’s Outlaws Training Center: Strong men crumble. Problem is, he’s got rivals willing to train a talented lady rider like Cameron. But after one night of passion, he’s branded. And from the moment he kisses her ruby lips, Cameron is his—even if he’s too stubborn to admit it. Now Saint must stake his claim on a life of delicious sin with the woman he loves.
