Make Me Melt (The U.S. Marshals #2) by Karen Foley: This is the story about successful attorney Caroline Banks and U.S. Marshall Jason Cooper. They met years ago, when Caroline was only sixteen and Jason was twenty-one. At the time, they shared an unbelievable attraction. So much so that Caroline attempted to seduce Jason while he was visiting her father, superior court judge William Banks. Luckily, Jason was wise enough to stop anything from happening, even though his body was feeling something completely different altogether.
Caroline was mortified and embarrassed that Jason turned down her sexual advances. As a result, she did everything in her power to avoid seeing him again. She even moved across the country to attend college and practice law. She visited her dad only when she knew for certain that Jason would not be around. Consequently, Caroline did not see her dad often enough.
Jason is like a son to the judge. When he was a teenager, he got into a lot of trouble and was even part of a gang. He ended up in the judge’s courtroom many times and his future looked like it was going to be spent behind bars. Luckily, the judge knew Jason had the potential to be and do great things, so he made sure he finished high school and paid for his college education. Jason’s success is largely due to the judge’s emotional support and generosity.
Twelve years later, the judge is shot and almost dies. He is in a coma and may have brain damage. Immediately, Jason gets his team assigned to the case, because finding the shooter is his first priority. He promptly locates Caroline and puts her under his protection as well. Of course Caroline is a mess and her guilt about not visiting her father is overwhelming. During this very emotional time, Caroline and Jason reach out to each other. Their feelings from years ago remain very strong. Seeking comfort, they fall into each other’s arms to ease their pain.
I really enjoyed this book. Caroline and Jason are extremely likeable, have great chemistry and compliment each other both mentally and physically. I immediately connected to them as individuals and as a couple. Jason has some alpha in him which results in truly passionate and hot sex scenes. This is a well-written book, complete with great characters, a plot that twists and turns in all the right places, and a sensual love story that I will definitely read over again.
