In May the Best Man Win by Mira Lyn Kelly, Jase Foster and Emily Klein keep May-the-Best-Man-Wingetting paired up at weddings. Jase had always wanted Emily until Eddie, his friend at the time claimed her first. Then when that friend told him lies about her, he believed them, so when she reached out for help, he refused. Now, years later, there’s a hostility between them. Neither one trusts the other but they have no choice but to play nice, or risk ruining the weddings they’re both in.

Jase and Emily exchanged barbs every chance they got, and their banter was amusing.

“You again,” she murmured, then tuning up a smile even he wouldn’t spot as a fraud, she asked, “Shitty day, I hope?”
“Worse every minute,” he assured her, meeting her grin and raising her a friendly shoulder bump that should have had steam shooting from her ears.
But they were on good behavior so she capped it, offering him a smarting pinch on the cheek and a singsong, “That’s what I like to hear.”

Both have trust issues that they need to deal with. Jase’s stems from his mother’s adultery and abandonment of her family. Emily’s stems from Jase’s believing the lies Eddie had told him about her. They need to learn how to be friends and make peace with the past before they can move on to their futures.

I liked their interactions, and I enjoyed getting to see Jase with his other friends. Seeing him interact with them showed a different side to him than the one Emily thought she knew. When he finally invites her to hang out with them, she gets to see him in a new light.

This was an entertaining story and a great beginning to the series. I’m looking forward to reading about the rest of Jase’s friends.

They can barely stand each other, but given how many of their friends are getting married, they’ll just have to play nice-at least when they’re in company. Once they’re alone, more than just gloves come off as Jase and Emily discover their chemistry is combustible, and there may be something to this enemies to lovers thing after all…
