In Miami Marriage Pact by Nadine Gonzalez, film producer Gigi Garcia’s father left her an inheritance, but she can’t touch it for five years, unless she gets married. She felt this was an unfair stipulation in her father’s will, as both her mother and her half-brother received their inheritance immediately. Unlike them, who only wanted the money to have it, she was counting on it to save her business. Desperate, she turns to her best friend, Sandro.
Chef Myles Paris needs money to convince his boss to sell his restaurant to him instead of developers who would just knock it down. His best friend, Sandro, introduces him to Gigi, knowing that they could help each other with their money issues. Gigi only has to convince Myles, who practically lives in the kitchen and has no time for dating, that a marriage of convenience could benefit both of them. With family who don’t want them to marry, a mutual best friend who’s not so subtly trying to play matchmaker, and someone behind the scenes trying to expose their relationship to the press, the couple end up dealing with more than they bargained for, especially when feelings start to develop.
Both Myles and Gigi are characters that readers will enjoy. They both want the money, but not for selfish reasons; they want to keep their respective businesses open so people don’t lose their jobs. It was refreshing to see people not fighting to get money to help themselves, but to help others instead. It was also surprising that Gigi is as good as she is, because her mother and half-brother don’t come across as being good people.
With likeable characters and a well-executed marriage of convenience storyline, Miami Marriage Pact is a story readers will enjoy. This is the third book in the Miami Famous series, but it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read any of the previous books and had no issues following along with everything happening in this book.
