REVIEW: Only In His Sweetest Dreams by Dani Collins

Only In His Sweetest Dreams by Dani Collins takes place about two years after the first book in the series, Not In Her Wildest Dreams, leaves off. L.C. Fogarty has left town, trying to overcome alcoholism and get over the fact his ex-wife had asked him to stay away from their then unborn daughter. When his son, Zack, gets in trouble for vandalizing an adult community near his college campus, L.C. comes to try to help him make repairs.

Mercedes Kimball, manager of the adult community, has enough on her plate. Her sister has taken off, leaving her to take care of her two young children. The last thing she also needs to deal with is vandalism. When L.C. and Zack ask to make the repairs themselves she’s suspicious, but the community doesn’t really want to spend the money to hire someone to do it. All the pair requires is a place to stay in one of the empty units.

I liked how Mercedes stepped up for the kids, putting their needs before her own. She was a sympathetic character, between having to deal with her family and with the difficulty residents on the community board.

I liked L.C., including how great he was with Mercedes’s niece and nephew, but I was frustrated with him at times. He refused to go home to see his own daughter, now two years old, even though he really wanted to. Instead of talking things out with his ex-wife, he ran away. All Zack wanted was for him to spend time with Lindsay, but instead L.C. felt guilty for possibly being able to see his daughter when he would never able to see the one his ex-girlfriend had miscarried. At times I thought that was a poor excuse not to see her; considering he lost one child, I would think he would feel grateful that he had one who had survived. I was happy when his sister, Paige, helps him to realize what he was missing out on.

I really liked the end of the book, which nicely ties up everything for all the characters featured in both books. I would highly recommend reading Not In Her Wildest Dreams first. L.C. is first introduced in that story. It explains why he left town in the first place, which really isn’t covered in this book. It will also help readers appreciate the ending of the book more.

Only In His Sweetest Dreams is about finding one’s place in the world, finding forgiveness, and getting a second chance to make things right. I would recommend giving it a read.

Book Info:

Publication: February 1, 2017 | Smashwords – Dani Collins | Secret Dreams #2

When Mercedes Kimball’s sister abandons her children, Mercedes takes in her confused niece and nephew, jeopardizing the job she loves at a retirement community. The sexy new handyman’s bedroom eyes promise to fix anything, but he can’t fix this.

L.C. Fogarty is trash, not Father Of The Year, but he’s happy to be Mercedes’s sounding board. Given their white-hot attraction, he’d love to see what they could do to a headboard, but he’s keeping a secret she won’t forgive. Confessing means facing untold heartache and going back to where he never belonged. He’d rather stay with Mercedes and her misfit family.

She might not get to keep that family, though. Which means she’s going to need him.

I think I would really enjoy this book. I love how you summarized the entire book at the end, it is what made me put this book on my (already very long) TBR list. Blessings!

That was my biggest issue with L.C.. It wasn’t entirely his fault as in the previous book his ex-wife asks him to stay away. He also felt he wasn’t good enough to be a father to her. I still thought he could have fought harder though.
