Pity Party by Whitney Dineen: Silk, lace, tulle. Veils, puffy white dresses and tiaras. All things that would make any girl giddy, but for bridal store owner Mellisa they are just a reminder that she is as single as a Pringle. Finding that true, long lasting love is proving to be a bit harder than Mellisa expected but hey maybe mister right is just around the corner… or maybe the new single dad in town could just be the guy she has been dreaming about all along?
I love a swoony cute romcom and that is just what Whitney Dineen delivers with Pity Party. This book was super cute and easy to read, with easy to love character and a cute storyline it was hard to find fault in this small town, single dad romance.
Jamie is easily one of the most amazing heroes that I have read by Dineen. This guy was heart meltingly swoony. I loved his commitment to his daughter and just the deep bond that they shared. After having his heart broken by his ex abandoned Sammy and him, I completely understand why he would want to put walls up around his heart, but gosh was he flip floppy when it came to knowing if he wanted to make the thing with Mellisa work or not. Our girl Mellisa was a darling not only for having the patience to wait for Jamie to figure out where his head and heart were but in general for being a totally loveable leading lady. I just adored the relationship that Mellisa and Sammy shared, these two just gelled. More than anything I really liked the fact that Mellisa never tried to take on the role of mother in Sammy’s life, she was more than content with being her friend and supporter. I think more than bring life and love back into Jamie’s life, Mellisa helped ease the transition into a new environment for Sammy and that was what really made me like her character.
I’m a huge fan of the insta love trope and with the chemistry between Mellisa and Jamie it made things all the more sweet to read. These two had such a great connection and I just loved getting to see them find that forever kind of love. One of the things that I really liked about their relationship was the fact that they faced real insecurities and fears and the build up of their relationship was based on more than a physical connection.
Pity Party is a feel good read, this book will tug at your heart strings, make you giggle and have you rooting this couple on as they find their way to happily ever after. I really enjoyed reading Pity Party and would definitely recommend it!
