Pregnant in the King’s Palace by Kelly Hunter: One word. Perfect!

I absolutely loved this story, and I give it 5 stars because I thought it was perfect! I wouldn’t have done anything different if I was skilled enough to write a passionate, heart rendering and exciting deep dive into what I can only call a book that delivered everything I love about this line. Excitement, brilliant story, love shining against all odds from every page, a heroine that says you know what? Stuff it, I deserve this! A hero that goes after what he wants but so mindful he’ll never have 100% because of who he is so does his best to give the heroine all he can.

The prologue sets the scene perfectly. I loved it wasn’t a dictation of memory or flashback, but rather part of the story. The feelings between King Valentine and Horsemaster Angelique were set from the first scene and it drove the rest of the book. I loved that Valentine was ready to stepdown from who he was in the name of love. I loved how he helped his sister step up. I loved how Angelique was an important and strong person in her own right. I loved the theme of family being so strong with both Valentine and Angelique and I loved the emotion that poured through the pages. With the backdrop of polo and palaces it was just beautiful!

I felt every word on every page and I can’t believe I haven’t really discovered this author earlier. I will be going back to the first three books in the series and reading them. Pregnant in the King’s palace delivered to me a fast paced, emotional, joyful, solid and exciting story that has now given me a new author to explore. I thought the threatening of abdication was well handled as well as the sensitive subject of King Valentine’s infertility.

One word. Perfect!
