Redeemed by Her Midsummer Kiss by Liz Fielding:Lucien Grey has settled into a country cottage to deal with his PTSD and write about his experiences as a reporter in countries overseas that were torn apart by war. His physical wound has healed, but his internal trauma causes many sleepless nights. The peace and quiet of his days is truly disturbed when his next door neighbor comes charging up to his front door and accusing his yard people of being killers. They have purged many of the nettles that are essential for caterpillars to become butterflies in her garden

Honeysuckle Rose is dealing with her own troubled past and lets Lucien have it. She is staying in the home of her late aunt trying to decide what to do with her life after a breakdown. She does recognize Lucien as the man she took care of in her role as a nurse when he was wounded. At first, she seems familiar to him, but he can’t remember why.

After their rocky start, the two slowly open up to the other and share some of how they came to be where they are now. The author does a fabulous job of slowly revealing their separate back stories. I found it very interesting that besides the trauma they both endured they learned to help each other on the properties and restore what Honey’s Aunt Flora had spent her life as a botanist cultivating.

Both Lucien and Honey had to learn to re-enter community life and deal with serious issues. Their romance is a slow burn one, which is a favorite of mine.

I loved how each chapter started with a verse that fit perfectly. That certainly made this story extra special for me.
Liz Fielding was a new to me author. I will now join her legion of fans.
