In Reunited by a Shock Pregnancy by Chantelle Shaw, Sienna has pushed her memories of her ex-husband Nico to the back of her mind for the past eight years since their divorce. But when there’s a mix up and she thinks he’s getting remarried–only to find out it isn’t him–it’s apparent their attraction never went away. Nico has plenty of reasons to be angry at Sienna. Although when he’s face to face with her for the first time in years, he can’t remember a single one of them. And when their chemistry can’t be denied, they spend a night together that shakes both of their worlds. As does the consequence of their blissful night: a surprise pregnancy that will change their relationship forever.
‘It seemed a lifetime ago when she had decided to enjoy a sex-without-strings affair with him. Now they were inextricably linked by the baby who was the result of their passion.’
Dramatic and equally fueled by anger and passion, Reunited by a Shock Pregnancy, to me, had the same feel to it as the vintage Harlequins I secretly read in my youth. Author Chantelle Shaw gave Sienna and Nico’s tumultuous romance a few twists and turns that made this entertaining as well as bittersweet, particularly where the couple had to work through the events that pushed them apart almost a decade ago. Parts of it broke my heart. Other parts angered me and made me want to shake my head over the lack of communication Nico and Sienna had between them. All in all, it worked out. But wow what a rocky road they traveled!
“Think what you like of me. But no one will be able to call my son a bastard,” he said harshly. “You *will* marry me, Sienna. I advise you not to keep me waiting too long.”
The one sticking part I had with this romance–besides that lack of communication–was just how much animosity there was between our hero and heroine and how they lashed out verbally against each other. Arguments happen. I’m okay with that. However it bugged me that they each at certain points said they hated the other person and verbally threw each other away. It showed in Nico’s rather demanding attitude that didn’t mesh well at times with Sienna’s newfound strength, although it made for some interesting sparks.
Aside from that, I did like how Shaw patched things up (eventually) between Sienna and Nico, with their HEA truly a heartfelt and sweet way to close the story. I think true old school Harlequin fans will devour this romance and will get swept away in our couples’ travels from England to Italy and even to Africa.
