I just finished reading Revealing Us by author Lisa Renee Jones and I loved it despite some things I’ll mention a bit later. I was first hooked on this trilogy right from the beginning with the mystery surrounding Rebecca’s disappearance and Sara finding her journals recounting her relationship with her Master. Despite that, the primary reason why I loved this series and this story so much was Chris and his relationship with Sara.
Chris was a very flawed, tortured hero who was tormented by secrets and demons he had yet to fully reveal to Sara. Sara had discovered one of his painful secrets in the previous book, Being Me, but their relationship was still in turmoil and Chris’ request and Sara’s decision on whether to join him in Paris might seal their fate.
I found myself totally falling in love with Chris right along with Sara. I loved when his dominant side came out; it was so sexy and I enjoyed all the deliciously hot and erotic things he taught Sara. I loved how tender and protective he was of Sara’s well-being and always made sure she was ok before engaging in new “scene play”. This also extended outside of the bedroom when he felt she was in danger and my heart always melted whenever Chris expressed his concern and combined it with his endearment term of “baby” to Sara. Seriously, who could resist that?
I liked Sara most of the time and I loved her with Chris, but she did get on my nerves a bit because she came off as being somewhat insecure. Sure, she had abandonment issues with the death of her mom and her strained relationship with her dad but Chris had shown her how much he loved her whenever they were together. She tended to let others influence her feelings and jump to the wrong conclusion that ended up “testing” her relationship with Chris. Don’t get me wrong, Sara was a strong heroine as well and provided the strength Chris needed to overcome his demons and tell her everything about his past.
I’ll admit that “last” reveal was rather anticlimactic and somewhat disappointing. Ok, maybe after the buildup of a “major” secret Chris was harboring, I was expecting it to be more “shocking” than what it was. Another thing I don’t think the story really needed was the small tidbits from Rebecca’s journal since we found out what happened to her already and I just wanted to focus on what was happening in Chris and Sara’s relationship and hoping for a happy ending for them. I was happy with the ending the author wrote for this couple and then of course, she sprung another surprising twist that has me anticipating another story.
