Rodeo Rebel by Joanne Rock: Gavin Kingsley is more than a little upset when he finds out his late father has cut him out of the will. As a former rodeo bull rider, he worked hard and is now working to build his own business on family land. His half brother’s want him to stay, but Gavin is afraid he’ll have to leave and start over.

Lauryn Hamilton used to work for Gavin’s father. She’s planning a bachelor auction to raise money for her horse rescue business. Gavin is very hesitant when Lauryn asks Gavin to participate, but then he decides that maybe he can find out more about what his late father’s motivation in disinheriting him.

Lauryn also has some serious father issues. Her father is the sheriff of the area. Growing up with him wasn’t easy. Her father doesn’t want Gavin in the bachelor auction. Gavin was definitely a bad boy in his younger days and even caused damage to the sheriff’s property. Does Lauryn need to steer clear of Gavin or give in to the sparks between them?

Most of us have had a bad boy in our past. They are often so tempting and irresistible. Gavin seems to have reformed over time. He has to deal with lots of issues from the past and seems to work on them more over the arc of this story.

Lauryn has had a troubled childhood, too. She can relate to Gavin’s problems. I enjoyed how she learned to open herself up to love and dealt with past issues.

I am a huge fan of Western stories and have read many over time. I am thrilled that talented authors like Joanne Rock continue to write books that bring authentic ranch life to fans of the sub-genre.

Of course, there are plenty of spicy scenes since Rodeo Rebel is part of the Harlequin Desire line. These are perfect for this cold winter.

This book is first in a series. I am looking forward to the next two from one of my favorite romance authors.

Lately I’ve really been enjoying ranch settings, this looks like it might be a good choice for me, especially since I’ve liked a few other books by this author.
