HJ_Recommends In Roulette by Megan Mulry, Having a flighty mother who is a French actress, and a very successful Russian businessman for a father, Mikhaila “Miki” Durand probably hasn’t had the Roulettebest role models in terms of solid, loving relationships. That’s probably why she’s more comfortable with numbers. Being a statistics professor at USC allows Miki to use her mind, having fun solving complex problems. If only her personal life could be handled in such a methodical way.

‘I am trying to apply all sorts of statistical analyses to the facts, but the bottom line is, I want to get into bed with that man, and that fact pretty much trumps any other variables for or against.’

Miki thought she was on the right track with her boyfriend Landon, but lately they have been drifting apart. Then while on vacation in Russia, a family emergency forces her to reevaluate her life. She’s given the opportunity to have a huge role in her father’s business, which both terrifies and excites her. Miki’s senses go into overload when she meets Jérôme Michel de Villiers, a rich French businessman who sets her body on fire. Rome’s reputation as a lothario precedes him, but she can’t help her response to his advances. Should she stick with the safe, planned out route with Landon? Or should Miki throw caution to the wind and let passion lead the way?

“It’s taken a long time for me to build my life the way I want it. I don’t want to do anything to ruin that. It may not be perfect–”
“You deserve perfect, Miki.” The way he looks at me, like he believes such a thing is even possible…it’s too much.

Roulette was a wonderfully entertaining contemporary romance with a highly intelligent, fun heroine who was in the midst of making some major changes in her life. Cue the drama and the passion…and the sexy French billionaire.

Megan Mulry’s stories, in my humble opinion, are always rock solid and have incredibly relatable characters. Miki was no exception. Like I’ve said before, I love strong, smart and sassy heroines, so this story really struck a chord with me. Miki was such an interesting mix of confidence and vulnerability while she was navigating her personal life. She was very much in tune with her job, as well as when she helped out at her father’s business. That was her comfort zone. But, like a lot of us, she struggled when it came to her love life. I can’t really blame her for being confused, though. She didn’t have the best example growing up considering her parents’ relationship was so dysfunctional. I thought she did a great job being open minded while figuring out who she wanted in her life, romantically or otherwise.

My only point of contention with the whole storyline was that Miki and Rome were technically seeing other people when they first began their relationship. Not such a fan of that aspect. But that having been said, the way everything unfolded as the story progressed helped me to make peace with that part of Miki and Rome’s time together. I honestly couldn’t get a good read on Rome at first. I wasn’t sure if he was using her as part of a business ploy, possibly toying around with her for fun, or if he was honestly as serious about her as he appeared to be. By the end of the book, I was on board with Rome being The One for Miki. More than on board. I did also love the beautiful descriptions of their courtship throughout Europe. Could there be anywhere more perfect to fall in love? *sigh*

I had a lot of fun reading Megan Mulry’s latest romance. I hope you enjoy the intriguing cast of characters and the journey Miki undertakes to find balance in her life.
