Sailing To Singapore With the Tycoon by Ruby Basu Deepti has just lost her job in finance as well as her boyfriend. She’s afraid she won’t be able to get another job in her field. She finds out there is a position for a pastry chef on a super yacht that is heading to Singapore soon. She has credentials for that type of work, so she starts off on an adventure to remove her from her troubles for a while.
When Deepti meets Matteo who owns the super yacht, she is thrown for a loop. Not only is he wealthy, but he’s incredibly kind and handsome. On the ship also is Matteo’s adorable niece on her way back to her parents. Matteo has been estranged from his family for a while. He does adore his niece and wants only the best for her. When the young girl disappears from her nanny, Matteo decides the child needs more than one caretaker. Deepti is drafted for the job which puts her closer to Matteo. They start to do fun things with the little girl and become attracted. The journey is fairly long, but it will end. Will they be able to go on their separate ways?
I would have qualms about being on a ship that long. It is mentioned that it’s very smooth. All the luxury does sound inviting. The various stops along the way would be places well worth exploring .
Both main characters have backgrounds that make it hard to trust or commit. I liked Matteo the best. It seems that that name is used for many heroes in romance stories and it resonates with me. Matteo opens up to Deepti. At the same time she keeps her recent past secret. It is a pivotal point. All the same, I felt a little let down by her deception.
The little girl warmed my heart and made all the scenes she was in extra sweet. There is something about young children that is absolutely endearing.
The use of various characters from different cultures is very encouraging to me. Life and literature should be inclusive. Thanks to Harlequin for supporting a wide variety of issues and people.
