Scandalous Summer Nights by Anne Barton: Lady Olivia Sherbourne had been in love with the same man for ten Scandalous-Summer-Nightsyears. The problem was he was her brother’s best friend and even she knew he wasn’t “allowed” to look at her. She was determined though and she knew she could get him to realize how much he loved her. Then the unspeakable happened, he was going to Egypt, for two whole years! She only had a few weeks to make him realize that they were perfect for one another.

James Averill was a good man, a planning man, one who didn’t do anything without weighing his options. He had planned for years to make sure that he could have this dream and head to Egypt. What he didn’t count on though was his best friend’s sister becoming a woman, when did that happen? And why did he have to pick now to notice that?

Two very strong personalities in a time when propriety was everything. A stolen kiss, a mislead journey, a turned ankle and lots of broken doors later would these two make it down the aisle? Or would they be spending the rest of their days in bed, separately of course?

Ms. Barton’s story is one of a series though can be read as a standalone, and comes with an interesting heroine. Olivia goes through an interesting transition throughout the book. She has moments of brilliance including this line “I know you’re not perfect, but that doesn’t mean you’re not perfect for me.” As well as moments that make you wonder if she has any self respect at all.

Scandalous Summer Nights by Anne Barton is a story for someone who can realize that women in the 1800’s were different than today’s woman and had different challenges, as well as can handle not strangling a less that self respecting female.

HOW FAR WILL TEMPTATION TAKE HIM . . .

Lady Olivia Sherbourne isn’t shy about speaking her mind, except when it comes to James Averill. For ten long years he has been her brother’s best friend and her heart’s only desire. But when Olivia hears James will soon set sail for an expedition to Egypt, she knows the time has come to make her move. It’s now or never . . .

James has always found Olivia bewitchingly attractive, but what kind of gentleman takes up with his best friend’s sister? Not that he’s thinking particularly gentlemanly thoughts when she appears on his exploratory trip—three hundred miles from home!—and incites a tavern fight. No matter what the devil she’s doing there, it’s his duty to see her safely back to her family. But how safe will she be when every starlit night brings wicked temptation . . . ?
