Second-Chance Bodyguard by Patricia Sargeant is the third and final book in the Toure Security Group series, which is about three brothers who took over the security company after the untimely death of their parents. While this book could be read as a standalone, I suggest at least reading the previous book in the series, Her Private Security Detail, first, as this is where Zeke and Celeste were first introduced.
Zeke Toure is used to providing protection for others, but when two people with a loose connection to his company turn up dead under suspicious circumstances and he starts receiving death threats, he becomes the one needing protecting. In comes Celeste, who runs her own private investigation company. Having worked with her on a previous case, the three Toure brothers know she can keep him safe all while investigating what is actually going on.
Celeste and Zeke tried to start a relationship, but Zeke called it off when Celeste wouldn’t let him crack her tough exterior. As time progresses and they work together to get to the bottom of the threats, Celeste finds her walls starting to crumble. Will Zeke be able to break them down completely before they can put an end to the danger threatening Zeke?
Having read the two previous books in the series, I was looking forward to Zeke’s story. He’s the older brother that wants to protect his younger brothers, even from things that are going wrong at the business. It was interesting to see him have to learn how to accept help for himself. Celeste herself is very independent and has a hard time letting people in, although she’s willing to try for Zeke. They both work to help each other see that they don’t need to be islands; it’s ok to let people help and to let them in.
With interesting characters, a few twists and turns, and some action along the way, Second-Chance Bodyguard is a great conclusion to the series. This would be for readers who enjoy romantic suspense.
