Seven Years of Secrets by Susannah Erwin: Mara Schuyler did well in journalism school. Now, seven years later, she is working for a small TV station doing “puff pieces” like promoting a local pumpkin festival. She is more than shocked when Declan Treharne shows up to make her an amazing offer. They were rivals in journalism school. Right after that they had one week of passion and then Declan left. He’s now an investigative journalist.

Declan wants her to work for him to start a new streaming news service to be called LNT. She doesn’t know that Declan has learned that he is a Lochlainn thanks to his mother using a sperm donor to conceive him. Keith Lochlainn has issued him a challenge to get the service up and running to prove he can be a heir to the Lochlainn Enterprises. Can both of them stay on a business level and not re-ignite the flames from the past?
I enjoyed Declan’s story for the most part. He did keep Mara in the dark a lot. Still, he redeems himself over the arc of the story.

I felt a little sorry for Mara at first since she was still at the bottom of the ladder, so to speak after seven year of hard work. Of course, all forms of journalism have a limited number of big positions. I had to admire her willingness to put the past behind her in some ways, so she could take up the challenge.

Keith Lochlainn seems more than a little controlling at times. He has worked hard. The demands of business and losing his only son, Jamie, have been more than difficult on top of dealing with his health issues.

This is the second part of a two in one volume. I liked that the author brought over some characters and details from the first part. Readers are guaranteed to love this combination of spicy stories. This is a great way to have an extended summer beach read.
