Shelter Me by Stephanie Tyler: Ryn is a talented artist. She’s just moved to New York and is preparing for her first major show. She’s both excited and terrified to take this step. She has no idea what is in her past, as she can’t remember any part of her life before she was about 17. She has an air of mystique and crazy surrounding her as she doesn’t give interviews and prefers to keep to herself.

Lucas is a sexy and powerful man. He seems to have an interesting past and doesn’t really talk about his work. He’s a playboy, yet he’s set his sights on Ryn. They have an interesting first meeting as she prepares for her showing. It’s clear that both feel the attraction even as Ryn’s instincts tell her to be cautious. After being burned in the past, she’s only looking for a one-night stand but somehow it becomes more for both.

“I’ll be with you.”
“So we’re doing this?”
Lucas frowned. “What’s this?”
“Going places together.”
“Yes.”

Ryn doesn’t trust or let people in easily. She’s learned a hard lesson in how others view her once they know the truth. She struggles with her amnesia as she wants and needs to know exactly what happened to her. Lucas becomes a much needed source of support as it seems that her past might just be catching up to her.

“I have to find out what’s in my past. I have to, no matter what the cost.”
He blew out a breath that hissed between his teeth. “Did you ever stop to consider that it might be better for you to never remember your past?”
I answered without hesitation. “Every day of my life.”

Shelter Me is a sexy, suspenseful story that keeps you engaged. Stephanie Tyler creates tension and anticipation as new details and connections are revealed. Ms. Tyler has a good cast of secondary characters with motivations that aren’t fully known. Shelter Me is the first book in the series, so they are many questions that remain with a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Fans of Lisa Renee Jones and Beth Kery will enjoy Shelter Me.

There are ghosts in my past–ghosts I can’t recognize.

My painting heals me, but Lucas Caine has made me come alive. My past could take both those things away forever. What started out as an undeniable need to create was quickly turning into danger as my longing for memories fed the rough canvases I filled.

Falling for Lucas will force me to revisit my lost memories–and possibly lose myself, my art, and him in the process.

And now he has me skating the thin edge between desire and fear as I use a past I don’t remember to leverage a future I’m not sure I want.
