Summer Romance With The Italian Tycoon by Jessica Gilmore: Madeleine, Maddie, Fitzroy had a dream. She wanted to be wanted, to be needed and to serve a purpose. The problem was she wasn’t sure how to do that anymore without losing herself in the process. You see she already tried that, and thanks to some interesting publicity ended up the Honorable Runaway Bride. So she escaped to Italy to try and figure out how to find herself and her purpose.
Dante Falcone knew his destiny. He was to take care of his daughter and his families legacy. Those were things that were important. Things that he needed to devote himself to. His dead wife had shown him that he didn’t deserve love and it wasn’t that he didn’t deserve happiness, just not the romantic kind. If only he could manage to convince his sister of that things would be so much better.
So to help make his sister happy Dante creates a fake girlfriend, based on his employee – Maddie. No harm in that, right? Well now with his daughter coming for the summer, his sister planning a surprise visit and an interesting first meeting with his new employee things are about to get a lot more complicated.
Ms. Gilmore has given her readers an interesting story combining several tropes with this one, the boss/employee, the secret romance, the single dad, runaway bride – but what was is more was the creative way she managed to make all of these tropes meld into a cohesive story. Her characters are well balanced and she breathes a lot more life into Dante’s role than many do their heroes. He is given not just a background but the reader is able to see some of the changes that occur in his thinking. The only real drawback is the conclusion, the ease in which Maddie concludes makes this reader wonder whether she learned anything at all. However overall great book and worth a pool time read.
