The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken: Brant has lived his life in a steady state of drunkenness and mindless sex, ever since all he loved was utterly destroyed. For four years, he has felt the guilt of losing his child, his marriage to the love of his life, and causing the accident that left her legally blind. Brant hasn’t seen her for four years, but now that his family is dragging him out of his drunken den and back into work, he’s forced to see Nikki again.
Nikki has been broken for four years right alongside Brant, but she, too, has never stopped loving him with every fiber of her being. Neither of them handled the loss of their child well, and she knew she pushed Brant away and allowed him to leave. Now that she’s facing him again, she doesn’t know whether to run away or straight into his arms.
As their loved ones force the two together, Nikki and Brant might finally be able to move beyond their pain and reunite with their soulmate.
I can’t help but love the drama of this story. Seriously, if you want intense drama and even more intense devotion, The Bachelor Contract is the romance for you.
That said, the drama came with a heavy dose of repetitiveness. There was no escaping their intense pain, anger, sadness. But all that heavy angst did come with an equally heavy dose of love and romance. Even if it was a bit cheesy. At least it was sweet cheesy.
These two are definitely soulmates. I do just wish I got to know them and not their pain a bit more. I wanted to see them as a couple, not just a pair learning to forgive themselves and one another.
The Bachelor Contract can be read as a standalone, but Van Dyken does dramatic and intense romance well. I definitely plan on reading the others in this series and getting a better look at the Wellingtons.

A second-chance romance from the #1 NYT bestseller of The Bet, Matchmaker and Elite series!
She’s everywhere.
Ex-wife.
Love of his life.
The last person in the world he wanted to see…ever.
And now that he’s working beside her every day, he can’t escape her. Her scent, glimpses of her smile, even the tension in the air that makes his body hum with the kind of need he’d only experienced with one person-all of it is driving him over the edge.
Brant Wellington was certain of three things:
Alcohol wasn’t going to solve this.
He really was losing his F-ing mind.
And his gorgeous ex-wife was going to be the death of him.
