In The Billionaire’s Virgin Temptation by Michelle Conder, Ruby Clarkson has spent years placing her focus on her law career instead of her personal life. And she’s more than okay with that, even if her sister and friends think of her as closed off emotionally. But there’s one man who makes Ruby feel way too many things: Sam Ventura. A successful billionaire lawyer, he could do damage to her heart without even realizing it. Little does Ruby know that Sam feels the same about her, as he’s never met a woman who intrigues him so much. But when they have a hot liaison at a masquerade party, only to find out shortly after that he’s now her boss, it will throw both Sam and Ruby for a loop and send them scrambling to figure out how to move forward–in their careers and their personal lives.
“Is that what you want, Ruby–do you want me to walk away?”
“No.” The word was barely a whisper but it kick-started his heart again. “I don’t want you to walk away, Sam, but I’m not very good at this. I don’t know how to make it work.”
The Billionaire’s Virgin Temptation was a steamy, well-written romance that had a lot going for it. From the instant connection between our hero and heroine, Sam and Ruby, to a sexy and very memorable masquerade they attended, to their boss/employee relationship, they faced down a lot of challenges. But they also overcame some personal emotional hangups that I think readers will definitely relate to.
‘Nothing in her past experiences had equipped her to deal with how she felt when she was in his arms, and it was nothing short of terrifying.’
Michelle Conder created a couple who were extremely passionate–in the courtroom *and* in the bedroom. Ruby and Sam were lawyers at the top of their game and I thought they were both very likable, driven, but kind people. Yes, Ruby was pretty closed off emotionally after not having the best role models growing up where romance was concerned. And Sam didn’t understand the need to show his feelings to Ruby to ensure they were on the same page. But boy weren’t they fun to watch. Conder made sure they both denied their feelings just enough to create tension–plus all the sparks between them while they tried working in the same law office–making the moments when they finally gave in that much more exciting and wanton.
I was impressed with the wonderful flow to this story and the engaging characters in The Billionaire’s Virgin Temptation and will certainly be looking for more of Michelle Conder’s work in the future. If you’re a fan of romance with tons of attraction between the characters as well as an interesting plot, this one is for you.
