REVIEW: The Nanny Game by Zuri Day

The Nanny Game (The Eddington Heirs #2) by Zuri Day: Desmond Eddington, the oldest heir of the Eddington family, has the surprise of his life when a baby—his baby!—appears in his doorstep like some mail package.

Literally.

He doesn’t know a thing about being a parent. How will he handle this? Enter Ivy Campbell, an over qualified nanny, hired to take care of little Desiree. But that’s not all. Baby Desiree could ruin Desmond father’s aspirations of being the president of an überexclusive global club if her existence becomes public. Trying to avoid a scandal, Desmond asks Ivy to be his wife…but things aren’t as simple as they look. Especially when Desiree’s mother shows up. And Ivy’s secrets come to surface.

Desmond is the typical man who plays by the rules. Always avoiding scandals, doing things by the traditional/conservative rules. Something he dislikes? Lies and betrayals. After what his childhood friend-with-benefits Shelly did by having his child via IVF without telling him, he became more cautious and distrustful. Ivy, on the other hand, still suffers with the aftermath of her fiancée Gerald’s tragic death. She’s worried about the secret she keeps regarding her leaving Atlanta will have huge repercussions not only for her, but for the Eddington family and their aspirations. All the cards on the table, Desmond and Ivy couldn’t deny what’s going on between them.

“She’d fallen in love with Desmond Eddington. It was a fact she’d run from since the day of their first kiss, but one that could no longer be denied.”

“Desmond wasn’t sure how or when it happened, but Ivy had managed to do what no other woman had. Get under his skin and crawl into his heart.”

Their attraction and their chemistry—oh, their sex scenes, my goodness!!—are scorching hot and so intense you could feel them. With too many obstacles surrounding them, they get intimate and their feelings grow easily.

As the second book on the series, it has some hints from book 1 and something a bit blurred from book 3. The Eddington clan is a force to be reckoned, especially Mona, Desmond’s mother, which is fantastic. Also Lynn, Ivy’s friend, and Helen (Ivy’s mother) are interesting characters (I wished I had a bit more of Helen and Ivy’s mother-daughter interactions because of their struggling relationship). But Shelly, the baby’s mother, won the award for best actress. This character is one I will never understand, even as her “villain” role.

I really loved Ivy and Desmond’s romance and liked how Ms. Day puts an enticing story that makes you feel a variety of emotions (in my case, I loved Desmond and I wanted to kill him at the same time, as I was always by Ivy’s side, lol!). However, there were some plot holes that let me confused. The ending was really good but what really impressed me is how the course of events was set to create the greatest impact for the reader. I’m looking forward for the next book. So sad this book didn’t have clear hints of it.
