The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson: All that Bryony really wants is to get her manuscript picked up and published so that she can help save her grandmothers legacy, an ESL teaching school. So when she manages to botch her book pitch with none other than literary agent Jack Sterling, she thinks all hope is lost. Well that is until Jack makes her a counter offer, he will look at her book if she becomes the ghostwriter for a socialite. Two years and a hit debut novel later, Bryony is tired of being hidden writing sensation, she is done having to put up with Amelia and her over the top attitude, its time for Jack to make good on their deal and publish her own book. Well that was the plan, but you know what they say about plans… the question is can Bryony survive going on book tour with Amelia, while trying to figure out the dynamic between her and Jack?
I loved how relatable this book felt, there was something very easy to follow and connect with in this book which made me really enjoy following Bryony. Though I do have to say as much as I enjoyed reading this book, I couldn’t help but feel that it was a bit lite on the actual romance element, if anything I would have classified this as chicklit, nevertheless I did really enjoy the overall read. I think one of the things that I would have liked to have had in this book, would have been a few chapters from Jacks POV, this would have really tied the entire story together and helped it lean more towards the romance genre.
I really admired our leading lady Bryony, she was so passionate about saving her grandmothers legacy and the meaning that this school stood for, this in itself was beautiful. I have to say I really enjoyed getting to follow Bryony on her journey and getting to see her come into her own. Truly Bryony was such an easy to love leading lady, she was compassionate, kind and caring and she loved big. I was so happy to see her finally find her own voice and make people take note of how incredible she is at writing and for once putting herself first. Now for our hero, well I really wanted more of Jack, I wanted more of him interacting with Bryony, more of their romance, mostly I really wanted to get to read a few snippets from his perspective. Nevertheless what we did get to see of our hero, made me love him to bits. He was so deeply smitten with Bryony, there was nothing that he really wouldn’t do for his girl. I think there was a lot of potential for his story arch to have been fleshed out but this was missed.
The connection between Bryony and Jack was interesting to say the least. I liked getting to see them going from friends, to each other support system and then slowly getting to see their romantic relationship unfold. I think things picked up a bit more once their feelings for each other were out in the open, this is where it got interesting. While they could not have been more different they just worked perfectly and gosh did they have sparky banter for days. As for Amelia, well I’m not going to waste much time on her, because simply put she was not my favourite character at all.
All in all The Perfect Rom-Com was a good read, not so much a romance novel but a really good story nonetheless. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for an easy to read, low drama book.

She’s written dozens of smash-hit romance novels. Too bad no one knows it.
Aspiring author Bryony Page attends her first writers conference bursting with optimism and ready to sell her manuscript with long-shot dreams of raising awareness for The Bridge, her grandmother’s financially struggling organization where she teaches ESL full-time. But after a disastrous pitch session, she stumbles into correcting another author’s work in a last-ditch attempt to make a good impression with the agent. And she, as it turns out, is spot on.
No one is more surprised than Bryony when the agent offers her the opportunity to be a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict, popular rom-com novelist. Bryony agrees on one she’ll write books for this vain, demanding woman just as long as Jack Sterling, literary agent of the legendary Foundry Literary Agency, works to sell her own book too.
What nobody predicted, however, was that Bryony’s books would turn Amelia Benedict into the Amelia Benedict, household name and bestselling author with millions of copies sold around the world.
And just like that, the Foundry Agency can’t let her go.
But on a personal note, Jack is realizing he can’t either.
