In The Rancher’s Reunion by Lisa Childs, Cash Cassidy and Becca Calder have been best friends since childhood. Cash has also been the love of Becca’s life. But when a family secret devastated Cash and caused him to take off for ten years, Becca decided that she wanted a family of her own. Now Cash is back, and Becca is a single mother, but she hasn’t disclosed the truth about Hope’s father. And Cash hates secrets. When he finds out the truth, will he push Becca away like he pushed his family away?
This is the seventh book in the Bachelor Cowboys series, but it can be read as a standalone. While it felt like there were some things going on that were carried over from a previous book, I was still able to follow along with the book with no issues.
I liked the characters for the most part. They’re realistic and sympathetic, and it’s easy to see why they acted the way they did in situations. However, there’s a lack of communication between several of the characters. If they just spoke to each other about things, it would have avoided a lot of the hurt that happened. It was a little irritating how Becca constantly worried about how Cash would feel when he found out the truth about her daughter, when she could have easily told him years ago. I understand that she didn’t want it to get out to their small town, however, Cash wasn’t even living or talking to anyone else in town but her at that point, and she should have trusted her best friend.
There’s also some mystery in this book, as they try to figure out who set the Cassidy home on fire. It felt like this storyline may have been introduced in a previous book, and it seems that it will continue in a future one, as it’s not resolved here. While I haven’t read the previous books, readers are given enough information to understand what happened, so those new to the series won’t feel lost.
The Rancher’s Reunion is a well-written story about friendship, family, secrets, lies, healing, and forgiveness. This book would be for readers who enjoy small town romances and the friends-to-lovers trope.
