In The Right Twin by Gina Wilkins Aaron is tired of living in the shadow of his identical twin, the ‘good’ twin Andrew. Andrew works in the family security and investigation business whereas Aaron has no desire to be stuck behind a desk all day, sitting on stake outs, and following people around. Aaron is not settling down, he has job after job, and has not found his path in life yet. He is getting weary of all the lectures from his family, and decides spur of the moment to go to Bell resort after finding the brochure for it by the trash in Andrew’s office – after yet another ‘talk’ from Andrew about settling down in life. He needs the privacy and the time to really reflect on his life and what he wants to do.
At Bell resort, he finds the Bell family, who all know Andrew and consider him a hero after some work he did for them…they are very welcoming of Aaron too, after initially mistaking him for his brother. But it is Shelby Bell that Aaron is drawn too. Shelby is full of energy, ideas, and loves to talk! She convinces Aaron to help her check out a guest at the resort that Shelby is convinced is up to no good, at the same time convincing him to pretend to flirt with her and be her beau, both for the benefit of her family so they will leave her alone, and for as a cover so that the suspicious guest won’t guess what they’re really up to. But somewhere along the way, the ‘pretend’ feelings start to become real to both of them. Will either of them decide to risk their heart? Is Aaron even a good risk if he isn’t ready to settle down, especially in another family run business?
The first few chapters of The Right Twin were slow for me and difficult to feel really involved in. I felt like there was too long of a build up to the main story line of Aaron and Shelby. Once I got past the first few chapters though Gina kept me captivated with The Right Twin. Her description of the resort made me feel like I was there, and I felt like the characters were people who I’d find at exactly a place like that! I found Shelby to be quite funny, whether she meant to be or not! Aaron, despite his restlessness comes across as a very decent, caring man. I liked that they weren’t perfect people, but they didn’t let past issues drag them down. A few of the side characters I would have liked to know a bit more about, they have issues that are alluded to but not discussed.
The funny and the unusual twists in The Right Twin made this a good romantic read.
