The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Susan Meier: Eloisa Vaughn was pretty damaged, but she hid it well, or at least thought she did. After all she was living life even after having been disowned, married, widowed and now making her way through New York City on her own. The problem was she was internally The Twelve Dates of Christmasstruggling, never letting the sadness really leave her. Now at Christmas time and faced with another holiday alone she really wasn’t sure what was in store.

Rick Langley had changed in the last eighteen months, death did that to people. The problem was he needed to get back out there and let people know that he wasn’t still hiding or at least that’s what his friends kept telling him. So he had to figure out what to do, then he met her.

When Rick proposes a plan, accompany him to twelve functions leading up to the holiday in exchange for help finding a job Eloisa is nervous and then thrilled. The only problem is what happens when this deal gets a little too real? Will holiday magic happen or will the “fake” romance be swept up like drying pine needles?

Ms. Meier does an excellent job with this holiday novel. The reader is given a real treat and while balanced we are given more than just a passing glance into what makes Rick tick. She does an amazing job at making the reader feel like they are in New York at the holidays and truly riding in limos and carriages with Eloisa and Rick.

This is a true romance with two young people who may carry more hurt in their hearts than most will ever experience but realize that the true spirit of Christmas and love is always around.
