Threats in the Deep by Addison Fox is the third book in the New York Harbor Patrol series. It works as a standalone, so if you haven’t read the previous books, you will be ok to jump into the series here.

NYPD diver Gavin Hayes spent New Years Eve with a woman he had an instant connection with, only to discover she snuck out while he was sleeping. Asisstant district attorney Sera Forte’s one-night stand with a mystery man left her with an unexpected pregnancy. Trying unsuccessfully to track the man down, she’s surprised to find that he’s a part of a new joint task force she was assigned to be on. While the pair have to navigate their impending parenthood and decide what to do about their relationship, they also have to figure out who has been dumping guns into the harbor. Someone is trying very hard to cover it up, and they aren’t afraid to go after the loved ones of everyone working on the case.

This book has a good blend of romance and suspense; neither overshadow the other. While it did feel like it was slow for the romance to develop, I appreciated that Gavin and Sera took the time to get to know each other first instead of just jumping back into bed together. It made their relationship feel more believe that way.

The author never really hides who the gun-hiding culprit is. While I didn’t mind it, I would have liked it if it had been a little more of a mystery. But that’s just my personal preference, as I always enjoy trying to figure out who the culprit is. The fact that the author didn’t do this did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the story though.

Threats In the Deep will keep readers on the edge of their seats, waiting for the culprit to make his next move and wondering who he’s going to target next. It’s a good addition to the series, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in the depths of the New York harbor.
