Thrown (Studs in Spurs #6) by Cat Johnson, is a sweet, new adult romance about Skeeter Anderson, a successful bull-rider and Riley Davis, the daughter of the local premier bull supplier. Skeeter, is a twenty-one year old cowboy that skipped college in order to take advantage of his natural born talent and subsequent success at bull-riding. However, lately his rides have been less than spectacular and as a result, he is off the thrownprofessional circuit until he can bring up his point total. Needless to say, he is a little depressed and sad. Thankfully, he has his good buddies who are willing to work with him during their upcoming hiatus.

From the moment Riley could walk, she was surrounded by bulls. After her mother passed away, it was just her and her dad running the family bull contracting business. Now years later, Riley is nineteen and facing another detrimental change to her life. Her father’s fatal heart attack puts her completely in charge of the ranch. So in addition to grieving, Riley has to keep the ranch running and prosperous.

Skeeter and Riley have known each other for a long time. Most recently, during Skeeter’s last tournament, Riley gave Skeeter her number, in hopes that something could evolve from their friendship over the years. Luckily, Skeeter is able to step in and help Riley during this solemn time. He even gets his riding buddies and their respective better half’s, to help as well. One thing leads to another and the attraction between Skeeter and Riley quickly develops into much more. In fact, the term “first time” is quite apropos.

I liked this story, even though the beginning started out quite slow. I even put the book down a few times in the hopes that when I picked it up again, it would be more interesting, which it did eventually. This is an romantic story and Ms. Johnson does a wonderful job of creating the spicy innocence between Skeeter and Riley. I found them to be a charming couple that could get through anything that was thrown at them. In addition, all the characters have a back-story which added some dimension to the plot. Overall, a sweet read with two heroic main characters.
