REVIEW: Time Served by Julianna Keyes

Time Served by Julianna Keyes is a great story about moving forward. Rachel Moser, 28, is bored with life. She is an time-served-picuptight workaholic who works in a very competitive environment. Her best friend, Parker, is a fun character who has her back. He lightens up a sometimes heavy tale.

Dean Barclay is the boy Rachel loved. They grew up in a poor neighborhood outside Chicago. However, she left town, afraid. She wanted a better life for herself and took off to become a lawyer. She left with no explanation and broke Dean’s heart. He took to a life of crime and served eight years in prison for armed robbery.

A chance encounter brings them back together. At first, Dean wants revenge. He is also terrified she will leave again. Rachel is fiercely independent and afraid to let anyone in.

There is plenty of sex in this book. At first, this seems to be all they will ever share. However, they have to learn to forgive and move toward a future together, and I found myself hoping they would do just that.

Time Served is the first book I have read by Julianna Keyes and I really enjoyed it. This was a couple I could root for, hoping they get their happily ever after.

Dean Barclay had nothing to do with my decision to flee my old life, but he is 100 percent of the reason I vowed to never look back.

I’ve never forgotten how it felt to follow Dean—dangerous, daring, determined—away from the crowd and climb into his beat-up old Trans Am. I was sixteen and gloriously alive for the first time. When I felt his hand cover my leg and move upward, it was over. I was his. Forever.

Until I left. Him, my mom, and the trailer park. Without so much as a goodbye.

Now Dean’s back, crashing uninvited into my carefully cultivated, neat little lawyerly life. Eight years behind bars have turned him rougher and bigger—and more sexually demanding than any man I’ve ever met. I can’t deny him anything…and that just might end up costing me everything.
