Unbreak my Hart by Clare Connelly is the last story in her sexy siblings series The Notorious Harts and features a new family member finding her way into the fold.
Avery Maxwell has been on her own since her mother died as a victim of violent crime when she was a teenager. She’s in the tech business, having developed a security phone app and likes her men like she likes her coffee – strong and hot, but ultimately temporary. When she meets a sexy stranger in a bar, she sizes him up, likes what she sees and offers him a night, no strings attached. But he’s not so easy to get rid of.
Barrett Byron-Moore is on a mission for his three best friends, the Hart brothers: investigate their newly discovered sister and report back on the best way to introduce themselves to her. As a long time family friend, Barrett is used to doing things for the brothers and doesn’t hesitate to embark on the mission. But he doesn’t expect to be instantly attracted to Avery and to let that attraction get out of hand. Barrett doesn’t take sex as casually as Avery, plus he has a hidden motive for being there. When Avery finds out the truth, will she be upset by Barrett’s betrayal or eager to learn about her new family? And can a sexy fling turn into something real?
I’ve enjoyed the previous books in the series, but I’ll confess that this one is my favourite! I loved both the characters in this story – they have emotional wounds that they hide from the rest of the world but find solace in revealing them to each other; in Avery’s case her mother’s death and for Barrett, his sister succumbing to an eating disorder.
As a Dare novel, steamy sex scenes are expected and delivered with Barrett and Avery definitely finding compatibility in bed. Since Avery usually doesn’t go back for seconds she finds it intriguing that there is something about Barrett that makes her want more. Even when he reveals his real reason for being there, she wants to continue their fling but balks at meeting her new brothers after being on her own and relying on no one but herself for so long. Barrett wants more than Avery is willing to give and is willing to step back until she realizes for herself the advantages of both being in a welcoming family, and having Barrett by her side. Barrett is wealthy (he’s an Earl!) but doesn’t come across as arrogant or entitled – he’s a real nice guy hero and Avery soon sees the error of her ways, leading to a delightful happy ending. This is one for the keeper shelf! I’m sad to see the series come to an end but look forward to whatever else the author writes next.

When it comes to sex, I prefer the Cinderella approach—appear like magic, get the guy and disappear by midnight. I don’t know why Barrett Byron-Moore is here in San Francisco, but before midnight, I’m going to have my wicked way with him. Happy birthday to me.
Well, Barrett isn’t just some random guy. He’s been sent by the notorious Harts, billionaires who are outrageously, ridiculously, can’t-even-imagine-it rich. Because it turns out I am a Hart half sister, and Barrett is trying to reconnect me with my family. I’ve been on my own since my mom died, and I don’t do “warm and gooey.” Alone is all I know.
Barrett is confusing all my trusted instincts. And the more time we spend together—touching, tasting, wanting—the deeper I’m sinking. Not just because I don’t do this, but because he’s with the Harts. Because he’s their spy, and even the best sex can’t erase that.
Forget glass slippers, hearts can be as fragile as fine crystal. They shatter. And for this Cinderella, there’s no such thing as a happy ending…

Sounds great.
