Unforgettable (Country Roads #4) by Shannon Richard: Hannah is back in Mirabelle after 13 years to deal with an Unforgettableinheritance from her beloved grandmother, Gigi. Hannah is looking forward to taking a break from her job as a high-powered attorney in New York, but she could do without being in the same small town as the one man who broke her heart, Shep. Nathanial Shepard, or Shep, is now part owner of a bar and a microbrew hobbist. He’s never forgotten Hannah as the one who got away.

While Hannah and Shep have by no means forgotten each other or what they had that summer, the attraction is stronger than ever. Hannah is still reeling from her losses and doesn’t want her heart broken again. Shep is more than willing to pick up where they left off, but their first interaction doesn’t go so well.

“Babe, we can either stand here and argue for ten minutes or you can concede now and let me take you.”

“First of all, Nathanial Shepherd.” She reached up with her good hand and poked him in the chest. “You can stop calling me babe. Second of all, stop acting like you still know me. Thirdly, you need to stop bossing me around like I’m your little woman. You lost that right thirteen years ago when you proved I didn’t mean anything to you. And last, but certainly not least, I never concede. Not to you or to anyone. Not again. Not ever.” she snatched the ice pack and towel out of his hand and marched away, rounding the corner past a surprised-looking Andrea and disappeared from view.

Shep stared down the hallway, unsure of what had just happened. Not only was Hannah back in town, but she’d handed his ass to him within five minutes of him seeing her.

Shep is very persistent and willing to be patient! He realizes what Hannah means to him and he’s determined to make the most of this second chance. They bond over their respective losses of much beloved family members. Shep is really good for Hannah; he helps her to have fun and get back to some of the things that Hannah used to love.

“You said you wanted to know what your options were. Well, I’m one of them, Hannah. This. Us. We’re an option. I know it’s been more than a decade, but there’s something between us, something that will never go away. It’s too damn good to waste. I know you’re scared. I know you were hurt during our last go-round. So was I. But we have a second chance, and I want to do something with it. You’re here for many reasons, and I want to figure all of them out with you.”

Unforgettable is a sexy contemporary second chance romance. Shannon Richard created two engaging main characters who were really well matched. Ms. Richard also provided entertaining secondary characters in the tight-knit group of Shep’s friends. Unforgettable is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone.
