When You Knew by Jamie Beck: Gentry has been the odd one out in the Cabot family. While she is smart and independent, she’s seemingly jumped impulsively from job to job and boyfriend to boyfriend. Now she is determined to earn her place in the family by working at the family tea company to provide the family she always wanted for her son.

Ian grew up learning the importance of serving others and spending time on charity work at home or on missions abroad. He’s using his EMT background to start a new emergency service in Haiti to honor his dad. He’s marking time while he works to secure funding before returning to the island.

Gentry’s life has been turned upside-down by her unexpected pregnancy. Despite the drama and conflict, she is a good mom to her son, Colt. With the lack of sleep and Colt’s colic, she’s struggling to do it all. Hiring Ian as a temporary nanny solves both of their immediate problems, even though they are worlds apart in their lives and perspectives.

“Let’s go downstairs and talk about how this will work.”
“Whatever you want.”
“Look at you. Already a star pupil.” She grinned and twirled toward the door, walking out ahead of him.

Living together gives Ian and Gentry a chance to actually see beneath the surface and move beyond their first impressions. They have more in common than either expected, which is both good and bad. Neither are in a place to pursue a relationship, despite the chemistry and their increasingly close relationship, as Ian is leaving and Gentry finds Colt’s biological dad. They definitely push and challenge each other to pursue their passions and be true to themselves.

“I know this move, you know. You’re pushing me away to protect yourself, but you’ve met your match, Ian Crawford. I’m not going to take the bait. Make no mistake. We’re going to hash this out.”
“There’s nothing to hash out.”

When You Knew has redemption, healing, conflict, tension, and family. Jamie Beck created an opposites attract romance with heart. Ms. Beck continued to build on the already diverse and opinionated cast of characters with Ian, his mom, and colleagues. When You Knew can be read as a standalone in The Cabots series. Fans of LuAnn McLane and Terri Osburn will enjoy When You Knew.

An unlikely couple must decide what truly defines family.

Gentry Cabot’s rebellious life comes to a screeching halt when a one-night stand leads to a sobering new reality: motherhood. Exhausted and overwhelmed, the former wild child struggles to raise an infant on her own. After a lifetime of feeling like the odd Cabot out, Gentry knows that what her son needs most is family. For his sake, she plans to rebuild bridges with them, but first she needs a little help on the home front.

Humanitarian worker Ian Crawford has devoted his life to service. Forced to temporarily return stateside, he’s eager to head back to Haiti to expand the nonprofit he just founded in his late father’s honor. He can’t do that without money, so when Gentry offers a hefty paycheck for a short-term gig as a live-in nanny, he can’t afford to say no. Ian expects to deal with a barrage of privileged problems. What he doesn’t expect is how quickly being a makeshift father transforms him.

Despite his growing attachment to Gentry and her child, Ian still has his dreams, and Gentry wants a full-time dad for her son. When the baby’s father reenters the picture, will Gentry and Ian embrace the family they’ve formed or end up worlds apart?
