Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Nalini Singh and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Archangel’s Lineage!

Thank you for having me! So happy to be back on HJ!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

ARCHANGEL’S LINEAGE is the next book in the Guild Hunter series. It’s not a book that stands alone, so if you haven’t tried the series, I highly recommend checking out ANGELS’ BLOOD, the first book in what is a darkly romantic series featuring archangels, vampires, and mortals.

LINEAGE deals with Elena’s painful past with her family, bringing her face to face with the fact that while she is now an immortal, her family remains vulnerably mortal. At the same time, dangerous and possibly deadly events are happening at the Refuge, threatening the very home of angelkind. It’s an emotional book, but it’s also one filled with action and movement.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

I don’t know if I can pick a favorite! But I think these words from Raphael offer a fun little glimpse of their relationship.

“So bloodthirsty. Truly, a woman I adore.”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • I listen to a lot of soaring classical music that is both haunting and passionate while writing the Guild Hunter books. Something about the way it rises and falls in a sweeping rhythm puts me in mind of angels in flight.
  • LINEAGE begins with an angelic balls where everyone is dressed up to the nines.
  • A certain adorable young angelic warrior who has a crush on Elena might find himself the subject of come hither smiles from some very interested women.
  • And…we’re about to meet a being so unusual that he surprises the archangels themselves.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Since this is a continuing series, it’s more about how they grow and thrive in the relationship. When I started to write Elena and Raphael’s relationship, I was adamant that I didn’t want random breakups or unnecessary drama.

These are two very, very strong people who are going to butt heads a lot – but then they figure things out, because no matter what, they are it for each other, now and forever.

As Raphael says in the first book: “If this is death, guild hunter…then I will see you on the other side.”

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

This entire scene made my heart ache in the best way, because it shows that no matter what, Elena and Raphael have each other’s backs. Here, Elena is by her father’s bed in a hospital quiet with the night, and Raphael has been dealing with critical Cadre business.

Elena wasn’t expecting the stir at the door, the whisper of wings. She glanced up already knowing who stood there. Never would she mistake the sound of his wings for anyone else’s. “What are you doing here?”

“He is your father, but you are my consort.” Raphael put his hand on her shoulder, his fingers curving to cup her neck.

Readers should read this book….

Because they love Elena and Raphael and want to see the next step in their journey.

Or if they’re unfamiliar with this world – because they want to meet a dangerous, beautiful archangel and the tough mortal who steals his heart (and also shoots him in the process).

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I’m working on the next Guild Hunter book. My next release is in July – PRIMAL MIRROR features a leopard changeling who is the alpha of a wild new pack, and a mysterious Psy woman born into a family of politically vicious telepaths.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Archangel’s Lineage:

For the Cadre, it was luxurious single armchairs with firm but comfortable cushions in cerulean blue and curving wooden arms. The set had been hand carved by talented artisans in Amanat and given to him and Elena by his mother as a housewarming gift.

In daylight, the pale honey-colored wood of the arms glowed in the light that fell from Aodhan’s glass sky. At night, the light came from a chandelier delicate and lovely, designed by Lady Sharine.

Another gift, Illium’s mother turning up in person to supervise the installation of the droplets of crystal that looked like falling rain.

Montgomery had placed the odd object d’art in the small nooks in the walls, and Raphael had discreetly ensured that all those pieces of art belonged either to him or to Montgomery. His butler no longer “rescued” as many items as he used to from homes where those items were not being properly appreciated, and, well, it was a small enough peccadillo to accept from such a loyal member of his staff.

“I love this space,” Elena said right before the meeting, as she stood beside him, her eyes lifted to the skylight designed with jagged pieces of glass that melded in haunting and lovely harmony with Lady Sharine’s rain of crystals. “It’s welcoming, even with the formal chairs.”

As she spoke, he watched her, this extraordinary woman who was his consort—a fact for which he was ever grateful to fate. She wore a light layer of cosmetics today, in honor of this first major gathering of the Cadre in their home, and her hair was a ripple of near-white down her back.

Thanks to Montgomery, she’d become known for gowns in shades of blue, but today, the butler and the tailor with whom he worked had gone for a gown so deep a blue it was near black. Softer than many of the styles she’d previously worn, it had long sleeves and a V-neck created by overlapping panels of fabric.

Fitted to the waistline, it then flowed to the ground in a grace of air. It bore two slits, one on either side—but those would only become visible should she kick out her legs to access the weapons strapped on them.

Her amber studs glowed in her ears, and on her wrist sat a bracelet of white gold carved with elements taken from the Guild’s historic coat of arms. A gift from Beth for a milestone birthday in mortal terms. A gift he knew his hunter would treasure for all eternity—though he’d also seen her touch it with sorrow in every line of her face.

His Elena. A born hunter. An angel Made. A sister tender. And a woman who never gave up, no matter what the obstacle. Her loyalty was unbreakable, her love a fierce caress that he carried with him every second of every day.

“Raphael, are you listening to me?”

“Knhebek, hbeebti,” he said, reaching up to cup her cheek. “More than eternity itself.”

Her eyes shone with a light that shouldn’t have been possible in an angel so young. “You stop my heart, Archangel.”

I’d go everywhere, but I love being up high, so the skies the limit.

  2. Amy R

If you had a choice, would you want to have wings, soar the skies like an angel? Yes
Where would you go? Tour the world

  3. Bonnie

Since I don’t enjoy flying, I would not want to have wings. I would rather be able to teleport around the world.

  4. Patricia Barraclough

I have always wanted to fly since seeing Peter Pan as a child. How wonderful to have wings and be able to fly over the mountains and forests, follow rivers and sea shores, and to visit the historic sites around the world. A view from the air is so different and adds so much more to the appreciation and inderstanding of what you are visiting.

  5. erahime

I like my self being firmly on the ground. If such wings can take me to that Heavenly place, then it would be nice to have them. Otherwise, no wings.

  6. Irma Jurejevčič

I would love to have wings! I would fly everywhere, but first I’d go to Denali.
