Hi Dylann and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Cowboy Christmas Jubilee!

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

3 Fun Facts About Cowboy Christmas Jubilee

#1 – Jinx came out of nowhere

When I sat down to write Cowboy Christmas Jubilee, I had no idea the leading lady would show up in the form of Jinx Jacobs. She’s not your typical cowboy romance heroine. She’s got teal hair, multiple piercings and more ink of her body than it takes to print a copy of the Holiday, Texas Gazette. But as soon as she took shape on the page, I knew she was the only woman who could match wits with local sheriff’s deputy Cash Walker and put him in his place.
Jinx may look a little different on the outside, but way deep down she’s similar to many of the other heroines I’ve written. She’s strong-willed and independent—two characteristics that several of my favorite female leads share. Her tough exterior protects a heart of gold and she’ll do anything for the people she loves.

#2 – Cash’s love for pecan pie was inspired by my baby sister

I don’t think it’s any big secret that I grew up in Texas. But did you know that Texas is full of pecan trees? In fact, in 1919 the pecan tree was declared the state tree of Texas. When I go home for the holidays, the thought of having Christmas dinner without my sister’s homemade pecan pie for dessert would be like trying to celebrate a birthday without a cake… or candles… or presents. In other words… Christmas without pecan pie would be virtually impossible.
So when it came time for Cash to pick his favorite dessert, there was never any question in my mind that he’d have his heart set on his mom’s homemade pecan pie. I’ve asked my sister if I can share her recipe. Picking and shelling pecans straight from the tree is not for the faint of heart, but it’s so very worth it, especially with a dollop of homemade whipped cream and maybe a finger or two of bourbon on the side.

Homemade Pecan Pie:

  • 1 Homemade Pie Crust (or a thawed frozen one if you’re not up for rolling out your own)
  • 1 Cup dark corn syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • 2 TBSP melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 Cups pecan halves
Preheat oven to 350. Stir together corn syrup, eggs, sugar, butter, and vanilla. Place pecan halves in pie crust and pour mixture on top. Bake 70 minutes or until set.

#3 – The live nativity scene was inspired by real life

I don’t want to give all of my secrets away, but one of my favorite scenes in the book involves a very pregnant Charlie (Cash’s sister), and a live nativity scene complete with the Rambling Rose’s pig mascot. When I was a kid, I got to take part in a live nativity at our church’s Christmas pageant. For some reason I was chosen to play the part of Mary, mother to the baby Jesus. At that point I had two younger siblings and knew how to hold an infant. I remember being very upset that they wouldn’t trust me with a real live baby instead of the swaddled plastic doll they’d dressed up to look like baby Jesus. Evidently there’s a reason for everything and before the evening was over, Joseph and one of the shepherds were playing catch with the precious plastic babe.

There are so many other tidbits I’d love to share about Cowboy Christmas Jubilee but you’ll have to read the book to find them for yourself! Since the story revolves around the holidays and the traditions the people of Holiday, Texas celebrate, I do want to know… what’s your favorite Christmas or holiday tradition?

Book Info:

Merry Christmas from your new friends in Holiday, Texas:
The most celebratory town in the South!

When Jinx Jacobs’s motorcycle breaks down outside Holiday, Texas, the last thing she wants is to get stuck in the cheery little town, especially during the holidays. The whole place has gone Christmas crazy, but all she has to do is stay out from under the mistletoe—and do her best to keep that unnervingly attractive cop off her back.

Single dad and sheriff’s deputy Cash Walker doesn’t have time for romance, and yet something about the tempting loner twists his stomach up tighter than a tangle of tinsel. He may have finally found the missing piece in his life…but with Jinx so determined to avoid putting down roots, convincing her to stay may just take a Christmas miracle.

Putting up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and leaving it up until January 1st for good luck into the new year.

Ditto here! Sometimes ours stays up into the New Year… not because I’m lazy… ahem… but I figure the more luck, the better, right? 😉

I love the colored lights too! We got a new tree last year and it has like 8 twinkle functions… pretty cool until the kids start fighting over the controller!

    • Dylann Crush

My kiddos love that too. Have you seen the displays set to music? Those are our faves!

I can’t wait to read this book. My favorite Christmas tradition is helping my parents decorate their house starting the day after Thanksgiving. We pack up many of their daily decor to make room for nativity scenes, Christmas villages and tons and tons of Christmas decor and decorate the tree. My dad often has the best light display in Stephenville, Texas. We call their home Candyland! I have 5 pecan trees on my property here in Texas. I don’t think I am going to have many this year because the squirrels or something had a huge feast. In a matter of a couple days my yard and outside decor, roof of the house and out buildings was covered in cracked open pecans. I’ve lived her for 18 years and it was the craziest and only time I’ve ever seen this happen. I keep thinking, what happened to stocking up for the winter. We’ve had so much rain this fall and winter that I’m hoping we’ll have a bumper crop next year.

Oh bummer on your pecan crop! Sounds like your folks’ house is the place to be for the holidays!

My favorite holiday tradition was going to the local Christmas tree farm and cutting down the tree. The kids, all 4, always managed to want a different tree. We laugh about some of those experiences. Especially momentous was the time I was pregnant with our third child, due January 15th. It was really cold and icy so my husband went by himself. He found a tree, paid for it and then realized he had lost his car keys. The owner actually helped him retrace his steps and luckily found the keys in the area where he had cut the tree. We were really lucky! We lived in central Wisconsin in an area known for it’s Christmas trees. Kirk Company sends them all over the world. Beautiful memories, beautiful scenery!
