Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Elle Everhart to HJ!
Hi Elle and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Hot Summer!
Hello! Thanks for having me!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
Every summer, Cas Morgan watches HOT SUMMER, the hit reality dating show that whisks ten singles into a villa and records their (often dramatic) attempts to find love. This summer, Cas is going to be starring on the show herself… except she isn’t there to find the love of her life.
Cas’ boss offers her a once-in-a-career chance and handpicks her to join the HOT SUMMER cast, promising Cas a big promotion if she’s able to make it to the finale, scheduled eight weeks after the start of filming. Cas is all ready for her summer of “love”, until she meets Ada and their connection throws all her well thought out plans out the window.
Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:
The moment Cas sees Ada for the first time is forever one of my favourites: “Her long red hair was shining with gold in the sun, the loose waves curling over her white, freckled shoulders and tickling the middle of her back. She was already smiling as she turned around, but it seemed genuine, not at all crafted for the cameras. Even at a distance, Cas could see the way the warmth reached her dark eyes. Her face was coated in freckles that Cas was sure would only darken as the summer progressed and she had the softest dimple in her right cheek.”
I also just ADORE Sienna, so here’s an early exchange between Sienna and Cas:
“I think so.” Cas sounded like she’d swallowed a handful of gravel. “Or maybe I’m dying. Unclear.”
“Pretty sure our contracts prohibit dying,” Sienna said quietly, and that just made Cas choke all over again.
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
- Hot Summer spawned out of my absolute OBSESSION with Love Island — I hadn’t written a proper pitch or anything, had just mentioned to my editor that I needed to write a queer Love Island book and she said “let’s do it!”
- The playlist for this book is less about the vibes and more about the songs I was obsessed with at various points while drafting. It includes Hozier (you can’t write a book about yearning without listening to Hozier on repeat), David Bisbal, Luis Fonsi, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Aces, Rina Sawayama….
What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?
Cas is immediately attracted to Ada’s softness and warm, genuine nature — she’s patient and encouraging, and it allows Cas to come out of her shell. Ada is interested in figuring out who Cas is underneath everything — she loves Cas’ loyalty and connection with her friends, loves her passion, and loves laughing at Cas’ sarcastic little comments.
Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?
There’s a scene about halfway through that REALLY had me blushing… Ada is just too much to handle.
“For that flash of a moment, there was an unbeatable power on Ada’s face. An awareness of her raw sexuality, of her appeal.”
Readers should read this book….
If you love reality TV, but always hoped it would be a little queer-er.
Or if you want a fun, steamy book to read on the beach.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?
I can’t go into TOO much detail about what I’m working on now, but let’s just say it’s a little musical, a little nostalgic, a little ‘two queer women trying to decide if this very intense friendship is a crush or not’
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Book Info:
Cas Morgan has spent years of her life watching Hot Summer, the hit reality dating show that pairs together a bunch of sexy singles in an exotic island location. Like the rest of the TV-watching UK public, she’s captivated by the hot contestants, outrageous fights, and hilarious banter. But she never quite thought she’d be a part of it, until her company secures a partnership with the production team behind the show, and Cas is handpicked as a contestant. She won’t get any extra help making it through the eight weeks in the hot Cypriot sun, but if she does well and makes it to the finals, her long-awaited promotion will be secured.
Cas is ready to spend the summer trying to make herself more likeable to win over the voting public—and, if not likeable, then at least iconic. But just as she steps into the villa, her entire plan goes off course. She’s instantly smitten with fellow contestant, Ada, who shockingly appears to be on the show to find a genuine relationship, one Cas can’t give. Ada is gorgeous and charming, and seems to like Cas exactly as she is, sharp-edges and all. Cas isn’t used to the side of herself Ada brings out, and when their connection becomes undeniable—and Cas’s own standing in the villa precarious—she’s torn between listening to her heart or sticking to her strategy.

I would rather not be in any of the daring reality shows. But if there’s no option for that, then LOVE IS BLIND because I want to know the person more than their physical looks first.
Mary Preston
I could never bring myself to be on any kind of show. Do not know these shows.

If you had to go on a reality dating television show, which would you pick: Love Island, Love is Blind, The Bachelor, or The Ultimatum (and why)? Not sure as I’ve never seen any of them.
Mary C
I’ve never watched any of the shows, so I have no idea which one I would choose.

I don’t think I could be on reality dating show because I am too blunt and if I don’t like you, you will know it.

I guess I’m old, as I would have no desire to go public and flaunt my body ,my soul in front of a camera. Read about someone else’s experience would be fine.
I’m from The Dating Game vintage. That show would be my level of daring.
Texas Book Lover
I wouldn’t want to do any of them.
