Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Tif and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, In A Book Club Far Away!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

IN A BOOK CLUB FAR AWAY is the friendship story of 3 Army wives who became fast friends at a book club ten years ago when their husbands left for deployment. Told in two timelines, we find out what broke that friendship apart, and whether, at the present time, if they can salvage that friendship when two come together to help the third through an emergency.

Please share the opening lines of this book:

In a commercial kitchen far, far away, in a military town in the middle of Georgia, a caterer named Regina Castro had an online crush. It was ridiculous, really, how often she thought of Henry Just, but when one was a single mom and an entrepreneur who didn’t have the time and the energy to date, an online flirtation was absolutely and positively enough. A heart on a post from Henry sent her spirits soaring.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • Fort Fairfax is based on the upstate New York post of Fort Drum, New York.
  • Though old town Alexandria is a real place, the businesses are fictional.
  • All the books mentioned in IN A BOOK CLUB FAR AWAY was a book I actually read!

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?

There are three main characters in this book. Sophie Walden is a nurse and mother of twins and is straightforward and levelheaded. Adelaide is a homemaker, enthusiastic, and eager to please. And Regina is an Army officer who has dreams of a creative life, and is struggling in her young marriage. What surprised me, is that despite their differences, they bonded like sisters and considered each other family.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

It would be the scene where they all meet in the past (their meet-cute) when Adelaide, hosting the first book club, needs help, and the Regina and Sophie jump at the opportunity. It involves Adelaide hiding out in her guest bathroom while the other two try to manage the crowd in Adelaide’s apartment.

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

That friendships are nuanced, and sometimes complicated, but most times absolutely worth it.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

Upcoming releases:
August 10, 2021: IT TAKES HEART – contemporary romance with Montlake Romance. This new series is called Heart Resort.
October 5, 2021: THE HOLIDAY SWITCH – young adult holiday romance with Underlined/Delacorte

Currently I’m drafting book 2 of the Heart Resort series.

Book Info:

From the author of Once Upon a Sunset and The Key to Happily Ever After comes a heartwarming and moving novel following three Army wives—estranged friends—who must overcome their differences when one of them is desperate for help.

Regina Castro, Adelaide Wilson-Chang, and Sophie Walden used to be best friends. As Army wives at Fort East, they bonded during their book club and soon became inseparable. But when an unimaginable betrayal happened amongst the group, the friendship abruptly ended, and they haven’t spoken since.

That’s why, eight years later, Regina and Sophie are shocked when they get a call for help from Adelaide. Adelaide’s husband is stationed abroad, and without any friends or family near her new home of Alexandria, Virginia, she has no one to help take care of her young daughter when she has to undergo emergency surgery. For the sake of an innocent child, Regina and Sophie reluctantly put their differences aside to help an old friend.

As the three women reunite, they must overcome past hurts and see if there’s any future for their friendship. Featuring Tif Marcelo’s signature “enchanting prose” (Amy E. Reichert, author of The Coincidence of Coconut Cake) and the books that brought them together in the first place, In a Book Club Far Away honors the immense power of female friendship and how love can defy time, distance, and all old wounds.

Are you in a book club? Yes
What was the best book you read at book club? We don’t assign books, we talked about what we read that month good or bad.

  2. Glenda M

I was once for a short time. Think of every stereotype of a bad bookclub and you know why I quit.

  3. Ellen C,

No, I’ve never been in a book club. As a career library worker, we discussed different books every day. Just whatever anyone was reading and found interesting. No stress, no reading deadlines.
