Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Christi Caldwell to HJ!
Christi Caldwell, USA TODAY bestselling author of the Wicked Wallflowers series, combs London’s underground and finds romance and danger for a missing lord and the lady who loves him.
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
To solve a mystery that’s become the talk of the ton, no clues run too deep for willful reporter Verity Lovelace. Not even in the sewers of London. That’s precisely where she finds happily self-sufficient scavenger Malcom North, lost heir to the Earl of Maxwell. Now that Verity’s made him front-page news, what will he make of her?
Kidnapped as a child, with no memories of his well-heeled past, Malcom prefers the grimy spoils of the culverts to the gilded riches of society. Damn the feisty beauty who exposed the contented tosher to a parade of fortune-hunting matchmakers. How to keep them at bay? Verity must pretend to be his wife. She owes him.
The intimacy of this necessary arrangement—Verity and Malcom thrust together in close quarters—soon sparks an irresistible heat. But when the charade ends, the danger begins. Will love be enough to protect them from a treacherous plot devised to ruin them?
Non-Traditional Careers in In Bed with the Earl by Christi Caldwell
The idea for my newest novel, In Bed with the Earl featuring Verity and Malcom, came to me when I learned my work had been ripped off by a plagiarist. It was…just so awful. There’s no other way to describe it. Nothing that properly conveys what it feels like for an author. There was something so violating in learning another person had stolen my words and passed them off as her own. And the book that was plagiarized, happened to be the first book I’d ever written, while I was on bedrest with my twin girls.
Nora Roberts, who was also ripped off by the same plagiarist, encouraged me to put the emotion I was feeling into my next book…and so I did… Verity, was and is a heroine who finds herself robbed in a similar way. She’s a woman who writes, but doesn’t have the luxury of writing the stories she wants…and honestly, not all authors/reporters have that luxury. Her first priority is her family. She’ll do anything for them and that drives all her decisions.
Sometimes, we have to be strong for those we love…and do things we don’t want to do or wouldn’t choose to do. I wanted her hero to be someone unlike any other I’d written before. I never wanted my lost lords to be these gloriously successful, perfectly flawless men…but rather, I wanted to paint characters who truly struggled. I thought of the Thenardiers from Les Miserables…but with a good heart, and compelling past, and that gave me Malcom!! The next installment in the series, you’ll find features a similarly unconventional hero!
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Meet the Author:
USA Today Bestselling, RITA-nominated author Christi Caldwell blames Julie Garwood and Judith McNaught for luring her into the world of historical romance. While sitting in her graduate school apartment at the University of Connecticut, Christi decided to set aside her notes and pick up her laptop to try her hand at romance. She believes the most perfect heroes and heroines have imperfections, and she rather enjoys torturing them before crafting them a well deserved happily ever after!
Christi makes her home in southern Connecticut where she spends her time writing her own enchanting historical romances and caring for her three spirited children!

I do feel u guys! I was never plagiarized , but I used to have team members who took credit for MY work. Aarrgghh! You do all that work and then in minutes/seconds someone comes in and takes it.

So much in here! You’ve got the who & why of the kidnapping; how did Verity track Malcom down, & his transition back to being an earl. There’s the emotion/commotion involved in the pretend marriage, and do you think everybody’s happy to have him return? Those are just the highlights!

Julie Garwood’s historical are the reason I now read romance. Hers were the first I read and they totally won me over. Her heroes and heroines were not always the expected types, though Alphas were in great supply.
I feel terrible that your work was stolen. It is more than unfortunate that readers do not know and patronize the thief.
I like the premise of your book. There are such wonderful possibilities for story lines out there it is nice to see an author using some of those more unusual ones. I look forward to reading it.
