Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Kelly and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Lucky in Love!

Hey y’all! So happy to be here!

Please summarize the book a la Twitter style for the readers here:

Sexy, somewhat clumsy, cowboy who makes playhouses for a living, gets second chance with best friends little sister! *whew*

Please share the opening lines of this book:

The nurse looked at me with a stunned expression as she asked for the second time, “What did you say you think you broke?”
I sighed while my brother Roger leaned forward and cleared his throat. “His dick. Is it even possible to break a dick?”
After a glare directed at my brother, I turned back to the nurse. “There was a bit of an accident while we were hiking.”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • The hero was inspired by my own husband who is always hurting himself in some weird way or another.
  • The first chapter is a very loose retelling of an incident with my hubby! I’m giggling just remembering it.
  • The model on the cover shares the same name as our heroine.
  • I researched how to build playhouses so much I could probably build one myself.
  • This book I think is my favorite (so far) in the series!

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Truitt (our hero) has a secret crush in high school on Saryn (our heroine), but struggles with admitting his feelings for her since his best friend is Saryn’s brother. Same with Saryn, she has that secret crush on Truitt and is afraid to admit. Someone intervenes, pulling the two apart for a few years before Saryn comes back to her hometown. One moment together and sparks fly once again!

Using just 5 words, how would you describe Hero and Heroine’s love affair?

Sexy, hopeful, humorous, complete, respect

The First Kiss…

The first kiss is so sweet. Here is a snippet that leads up to it!
“I want to kiss you.”
I swallowed hard. “You do?” I whispered, barely loud enough to hear myself.
He lifted his hand and brushed a piece of my hair back from my face. When he tucked it behind my ear, I was pretty sure I sighed at the feel of his fingers touching me again.
“I do,” he softly replied while the corners of his mouth lifted into a sexy grin.
“What happens after you kiss me?” I asked while my eyes searched his face.
“Well, I’m hoping like hell you like the kiss and want to kiss me back. A lot.”

Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?

Oh, man I have so many in this book! Here is one!

The door to my office flew open as I pulled up my boxers.
“Oh my gosh, you’re naked!” Saryn nearly shouted.
“I’m so sorry, Mr. Carter, she just walked back here on her own!” Ms. Townsend said, panic etched in her voice.
I smiled. “It’s okay, Ms. Townsend.”
Three sets of female eyes were now on me. Saryn’s daughter was in her arms. I nodded to my assistant and said, “I’ll see Ms. Night since she’s already shown herself in.” With a nod, Ms. Townsend quickly shut the door.
I swung my eyes back to the other two. Bright blue eyes locked on mine, and I couldn’t help but smile. Brown curls bounced as Saryn’s daughter fought to get out of her mother’s arms.
“And I’m not naked,” I said as Saryn went to speak but closed her mouth, instead.
“Down pwease! Down, Momma, down, pwease!”
Reaching for my jeans, I quickly slipped them on, then pulled my black T-shirt over my head. Saryn watched my every move, her eyes filled with something I hadn’t ever seen in a woman’s gaze before. It wasn’t lust. Or desire… It was confusion. Most likely because she had walked into my office and I had been wearing nothing but my boxer briefs. Five seconds earlier and she’d have seen a hell of a lot more.
“You must be Liliana!” I said to the little girl who was now making her way to me. I bent down to her level and took the little bear she was holding out for me.
“Is this your bear?” I asked.
Liliana nodded. “Muke!”
“Muke?” I asked, glancing over toward Saryn who was still standing in the same spot. “I’m sorry, I just finished working out and took a shower. That’s why I couldn’t really see you right now.”
“A shower?” she asked, still confused and with a dazed look in her eyes.
“Yes, we have a gym in the building. I have a bathroom with a shower over there.” I pointed toward the door that led to the private bathroom. “Since my father and brother also have offices here, Dad thought it would be easier to have a gym in the building.”
Liliana reached up and touched my damp hair. Then she giggled and a strange sensation rushed through me. It was something I’d never experienced before, so it took me by surprise. I stilled, and that caused Saryn to rush over and take her daughter’s hand.
“I’m so sorry. Normally she has boundaries, but I guess she liked what she saw, too.”
My eyes snapped up to her.
“No, I mean, I liked what I saw…no, wait. Hold on a second. I came in here with the intention of firing you, and you have me all flustered. Since you were naked.”
The corners of my mouth lifted slightly. “I wasn’t naked.”
Her throat bobbed with a hard swallow. “You might as well have been. I saw everything!”
“Everything?” I asked, mock shock in my voice.
“Not everything,” she mused, “but it was…shocking.”
“Yes, that’s obvious from the way you’re stumbling on your words.”

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would be absolutely crucial to include?

There is a scene were Truitt takes his dog out in the middle of the night and of course…ends up getting hurt. But he runs into Saryn’s brother! It is one of my favorite scenes!

“Oh, hey there, Ryan,” I said, attempting to stand and groaning in pain as a burning sensation ripped through my knee.
“Hey, Truitt.”
He looked me up and down, and then slowly shook his head.
“I can explain,” I said, trying to push away the pain in my knee.
It was then I noticed Rus sitting next to Ryan, looking as innocent as could be.
Ryan folded his arms over his chest and smirked. “Oh, I cannot wait to hear this.”
“Well, you’re probably wondering why I’m dressed in your sister’s robe,” I said, attempting to laugh, only to stop when he raised one brow.
“That would be a good place to start.”
“Well, I needed to wear something because Liliana woke up from a bad dream and…”
The moon was full and I could see Ryan almost perfectly, so when the muscle in his neck twitched, I stopped talking and took a few steps back, as best I could with the pain in my right knee.
“Um, Saryn was passed out sleeping and didn’t hear Liliana, so I had to walk her back up to her room, and I couldn’t very well let her see me naked.”
“Naked.”
My hand rubbed the back of my neck. “Yeah. Um.”
I swallowed hard and glanced over my shoulder, willing Saryn
to wake up. Damn me and my ability to make a woman pass out from sheer pleasure.
“I spilled something on myself.”
He tilted his head and regarded me. “Want to try again?”
“I needed to do my laundry?”
Ryan shook his head.
“Your sister seduced me into a night of utter pleasure and I accidentally might have fallen asleep in her bed instead of getting up and getting dressed and going home.”
“My sister seduced you?” he asked, a touch of anger in his voice.
“It’s possible, you know. Have you seen your sister!”

Readers should read this book …

I think readers will like this story because it is light hearted, fun, yet shows to people who were destined to be together falling in love. It was so much fun to write and I honestly have never laughed so much while writing a book! I hope the readers love it as much as I loved writing it!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

Excerpt from Lucky in Love:

Liliana gasped and let out an excited giggle. I looked to where she was pointing and said, “Build-A-Bear? What’s that?”
“Someplace you don’t want to go. Keep walking, Truitt, for your own good,” Saryn stated.
“Pwease!” Liliana cried out and my heart melted on the spot.
“Pooh Bear! Momma, pwease.”
“Oh no, no! I see it in your eyes. Truitt…”
Turning to look at Saryn, I replied, “How can you be so cruel? Listen to that voice!”
She shook her head. “Trust me, she’ll forget all about it.” Liliana bent forward and pulled my chin up to look at her. “Pooh Bear! Pwease!”
Oh, God. How could anyone say no to that. Those baby blues pierced right into my soul and damn near brought me to my knees. “There is no way I’m saying no to that.” I walked straight over to
the stuffed animal store. “Let’s get you a Pooh Bear, baby girl.”
Liliana bounced around on my shoulders. I reached up and took her down. She grabbed my hand and pulled me over to a bunch of bins.
“You caved, just like that,” Saryn said, a smirk on her face.
“Do you not see those eyes? They were pleading, Saryn.”
“Yes, I see them every day, and that is called manipulation,
Truitt. You’ve just been had by a three-year-old.”
“What’s the harm in getting a little Pooh Bear?”
Her arms folded over her chest. “Okay, this is all on you, Mr. I Can’t Say No.”
I smiled and then focused on Liliana. “What do we do first?”
“We gets Pooh!” Liliana exclaimed.
Once she picked out the unstuffed, almost scary version of Pooh, we made our way over to a machine where they stuffed the bear. There was a heart that had a whole procedure with it. When they said to make a wish, Liliana took it very seriously. She had to clutch her chest and say a prayer so long that a line started to form. When I looked at Saryn for help, she made no attempts to move. I’d remember that for the future when she needed my help.
“Okay, let’s say amen and stick it on in there, Liliana,” I said, prompting her to wrap up the prayer.
She kissed the heart and pushed it into Pooh Bear.
After Pooh was all stitched closed, we moved over to give him a bath. Liliana was very thorough in her bathing skills. From there, I quickly learned why Saryn wanted to avoid this place. It was time to shop for clothes.
“Doesn’t Pooh just wear this shirt?” I asked, holding it up for Liliana to inspect.
“Yep!” she answered while she jumped up and down.
So we dressed him. Then she saw the outfit for Eeyore, then Piglet, and when I saw Tigger’s outfit, we were done for. Back through the line for three more bears. This time I made Tigger, and when it came time to make a wish on the heart, I quickly glanced around and made my wish.
If any of my friends had seen me in that moment, I’d never live it down.
Once the other three bears were bathed and dressed, we walked out of the store with nearly the entire Hundred Acre Woods in tow.
Saryn gave me a stern look. “You just spent a small fortune, all because of those blue eyes.”
“And the way she says please, don’t forget that,” I added.
“Yeah, that one still gets me sometimes, too. Let me ask you something, is the Tigger for you?” Saryn asked, trying not to laugh.
I looked down at her. “Of course, he is!”

Book Info:

When it comes to luck, I’m on the wrong end of the good side with more mishaps than I care to remember. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a happy guy: single, decent looking, wealthy, with a waiting list of people who want me to make their kid’s dreams come true with my custom-designed playhouses.

My life was exactly how I wanted it to be. That is, until Saryn Night walked back into my life with the intention of firing me. Good luck with that. One strong-headed, opinionated woman with a three-year-old little girl had turned my world upside down within five minutes. The moment they stormed into my office — bright blue eyes, curly brown hair, and a smile that would make any man fall to his knees, and that was just the daughter — I knew I was in for one wild ride that was guaranteed to turn my luck completely around.

Now, for once in my life, I found myself thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could finally be Lucky in Love.

I think I have an embarrassing moment everyday… But I think the one that has everyone always remembering is when I was little (like little, 3/4) I shaved my eyebrows off … I was only doing what i’ve seen my mommy do ( tweeze her eyebrows).

  2. Mary Preston

Too many really, but hugging a stranger would be right up there.

  3. erahime

When photos from your childhood comes up. Particularly a couple of them that has stories I rather not mention.

  4. janinecatmom

My most embarrassing moments would be the time I got the back of my dress stuck in my pantyhose after using the bathroom at work. No one told me and I found out about it when I went to sit down in my car and smoothed my skirt before sitting. Another time would be when I worked in retail and I went to work with shoes that had gotten chewed up in the back by a puppy we had. One of the girls pointed it out to me. I know there are more too but those two come to mind first.

  5. Lori R

When I was on recess duty a bee flew under my dress and stung me on my butt. Embarrassing but funny too.

  6. dbranigan

Those moments are best forgotten quickly and I have forgotten most. The most recent very embarassing moment was when I slipped and fell not oncem, but twice, on the wet and slippery streets while out with family. While it was embarassing to slip and fall, a companion’s comments didn’t help the matter.

  7. Mary C.

I walked up up to a professor after class to ask a question and could not remember his name.

  8. Charlotte Litton

I’m always walking into something or knocking something over, so it’s a normal everyday occurrence to embarrass myself.

  9. Kathleen Bylsma

When I was proofreading aloud-disparagingly- an already released to the public letter by my supervisor….only to find she was standing right behind me….she was not best pleased….

  10. Angel

So many, but the time my toddler had a huge meltdown in the store and everyone watched

  11. Joy Avery

When I walked out of the restroom in a busy office with my skirt stuck in my underwear.

  12. Glenda M

Considering that fact that I can easily trip over air there have been quite a few

  13. Teresa Warner

When I was in high school I had a ball point pen in my mouth and the ink ended up all over in my mouth!

  14. Nicole (Nicky) Ortiz

I just had one my niece is staying with me and she walked into my bedroom while I was drying off from the shower and she was FaceTiming with her dad.
    Thanks for the chance!

I went to the airport to pick up my older brother. While we were waiting for his luggage there was a bomb scare and we all had to evacuate. We ended up having to wait outside for 3 hours. Unfortunately I was wearing white long pants and i got my period!

When i was young I went to a friends house and i was trying to be really polite i sat in their outside chair and it broke. I literally fell on my butt and couldn’t get out of the chair plus the chair pinched my little finger so bad that his mom had to put my finger in 2 popsicle sticks and tape, I then went home and laughed a lot about it.

Too many to mention. For an adult, married with children, I was and am rather naive. I have put my foot in my mouth way too many times. The charge of being raised in a convent isn’t too far from the truth.
