Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Sawyer and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Rafe!

Hi Junkies!!!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Rafe Simmons has been traded from the Arizona Vengeance to the Carolina Cold Fury so he can be in North Carolina with his father, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. While there, he reconnects with the girl next door, his first love, Calliope Ramirez.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

Wylde sighs into the phone. “I know it’s hard, buddy. I’m going to give you some advice, okay?”
“Okay,” I readily agree. He’s already given quite a bit, mostly on how to manage hockey and a dying parent. How to keep focused and my head in the game, even though my thoughts are often scattered in a million different directions.
“If there’s anything left that needs to be said,” he says, giving a dramatic pause that makes my ears really tune in, “don’t wait to say it. Don’t let embarrassment or a lack of a foundation hold you back. Don’t let yourself have any regrets.”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • This is the first trade I’ve done between my two hockey teams, the Arizona Vengeance and the Carolina Cold Fury.
  • When I was first approached by 1,001 Dark Nights to write a novella for them, it didn’t take long to decide what series I wanted to do, and second chance was the perfect for a novella.
  • Ryker Evans (Cold Fury goalie) is still my all-time favorite hero, so I had to make sure he made an appearance in this novella. He, along with his now wife, Gray Brannon, make an appearance, as does their baby.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

They’ve got a long, but not always good, history. They grew up next door to one another, and their friendship eventually turned into something more. They ended up going their separate ways, but their split wasn’t amicable. Seeing one another after all these years, there is definite tension.

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

“Remember senior skip day?”
Rafe chuckles, and his smile becomes relaxed. “How everyone headed east on I-40 to the beach, but we came here instead?”
I give him a look of faux reprimand. “You said it would be romantic, but really…you just wanted to get me alone so you could get in my pants.”
Rafe snorts. “It was romantic, and let’s be honest…you wanted in my pants just as much.”

Readers should read this book….

For a sweet, second chance romance. And for a look at some of your favorites from the Cold Fury series!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I’ve got plenty more coming in 2020 from the Arizona Vengeance, as well as the team at Jameson Force Security, and the Wicked Horse Vegas. I’m also working on something new and exciting for 2021, so look for details in the coming months!

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Rafe:

The past eight years of my life melt away when Calliope’s lips touch mine.
Gone.
My entire professional hockey career fades.
The women I’ve dated over time…faceless.
The money I’ve made, unimportant.
Fuck, I’d forgotten how good she tastes. Her tongue touches mine, and when an electric surge of longing pulses through me, I realize we are in dangerous territory. Calliope has no clue that I’ve carried an agonizing torch of desire for my first true love all these years. She can’t understand the depth of my feelings, and if I don’t draw away now, this could be disastrous.
She’ll never accept the truth.
I pull away, my eyes immediately taking her in.
I see eyes half-closed, a small smile playing on her mouth, and a tiny exhale of something that I can’t quite put my finger on.
Disappointment?
Regret?

Book Info:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett comes a new story in her Arizona Vengeance series…

I was living my dream until one phone call changed everything.

As the second line center for the Arizona Vengeance, my mind has been on one thing—helping my team bring home a championship. But that all changed when I found out my dad had cancer and only months to live. In that moment, nothing mattered more than getting home to North Carolina to be by his side. That meant asking for the unthinkable—a trade to the Carolina Cold Fury.

Now I’m home and when I’m not on the ice with my new team, I’m helping care for my dad. And in the midst of my grief, I find comfort from the one person I never expected.

Calliope Ramirez stole my heart at a very young age. The beautiful, smart, headstrong girl next door, she was my first… everything. She has never forgiven me for leaving her, believing that I chose hockey over a future together. What she doesn’t understand is that every decision I made was for her, and I’ve never given up hope that one day we’d be together again.

Watching my dad slip away is a harsh reminder of how short life can be, and having Calliope by my side makes me realize I was a damn fool before. That changes starting right now. Calliope Ramirez is mine and I’m not going to waste the second chance that I’ve been given.

Meet the Author:

Since the release of her debut contemporary romance novel, Off Sides, in January 2013, Sawyer Bennett has released multiple books, many of which have appeared on the New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists.

A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to erotic contemporary romance, Sawyer writes something for just about everyone.

Sawyer likes her Bloody Marys strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active daughter, as well as full-time servant to her adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or even better, both.

Sawyer also writes general and women’s fiction under the pen name S. Bennett and sweet romance under the name Juliette Poe.

I have given second chances but now I think it depends on what the circumstances are

It definitely depends on the situation. I’m not as trusting as I used to be.

Yes, every one is capable of change, but it’s only up to them if they truly want to

Actually as the years have passed I’ve found that most people aren’t able to change. I’ve tried forgiving people but they’ve let me down. I find that we go back to our old bad habits and make the same mistakes again.

Second chance at love: I have two positive examples: a close friend remarried at age 62 after becoming a widow at age 38. My brother also found love again after a divorce. They have been together 7 years. He is 72. She is 60.
