Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Paige and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Rogue Wolf!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Dallas SWAT Officer Trey Duncan and the other members of his werewolf pack are trying to track down a supernatural series killer leaving body parts all over the city. If there’s a bright side to this macabre murder spree (there really isn’t), it’s all the time he’s getting to spend at the crime scenes with Dr. Samantha Mills, one of the county’s medical examiners. He’s had a thing for her for more than two years now, though he’s the first to admit it’s rather difficult to flirt while standing over a dismembered corpse. So, he’s rather surprised when Samantha actually makes the first move and asks him out. But he’s sure as heck isn’t going to complain!

Of course, what Trey doesn’t realize is that Samantha knows the Dallas SWAT team is hiding a huge secret. She isn’t exactly sure what’s up with them, but there have been too many strange things going on with the SWAT team over the years to ignore. And she’s not above using her newfound dating status with Trey to get the answers she’s looking for—no matter how underhanded it might seem.

But as the secrets start to come out, the murders take an even stranger turn, putting Trey and Samantha square in the killer’s path. Will they be able to “define their relationship” at the same time they’re busy lying to each other…and before they get themselves killed?

Tell us about the book with this fun little challenge using the title of the book.

Thank goodness for short book titles, or this could get complicated!

R is for Romance…the very best genre to write. It’s also for Ranch Dressing, which we’ve been using a lot of lately. I’m not sure why I felt the need to tell you this. It just seemed like something I should share.

O is for Old Friends…because they play a key role in this story.

G is for Gratuitous…as in gratuitous use of claws and fang. Also, for a gratuitous misuse of science to explain how Samantha gets DNA results back so fast in the story.

U is for Unconditional…when a werewolf meets The One for them—their soul mate—the love they share is unconditional. Unfortunately, no one in our stories ever seems to realize they’re in a romance book, so they tend to spend an inordinate amount of time doing everything they can to screw up the romantic connection. We do that mostly so the reader can throw things at them and call them stupid. It’s cathartic.

E is for Excitement…something you’re guaranteed to get in every Paige Tyler book. In this case, there’s a serial killer, a pack of werewolves, supernatural creatures seeking to do all kinds of terrifying stuff, and cheeseburgers (which are very exciting for us, full disclosure).

W is for Werewolf…the subject near and dear to this story and the series in general. BTW, in our werewolf mythology, the werewolf thing can’t be transmitted by a bite. Which means biting is completely acceptable in the bedroom.

O is for Oh no!…which are the words Samantha shouts when she cuts Trey in a rather unplanned attempt to steal his blood for DNA testing. But in this case, be careful what you ask for. You may not like the answers you get.

L is for Love…something Trey and all of our werewolves are looking for, even if they don’t realize it.

F is for Fur…because well…werewolves!

Please share your favorite quote from the book.:

Trey and Samantha have been making eyes at each other for years, but they still haven’t made a move yet. This is the part of the story where Trey’s teammates try to nudge him in the right direction…

Trey snorted. “Yeah right. I’m sure Samantha wants some guy to ask her out while she’s leaning over a dead body.”
“Dude, she deals with dead bodies every day, so you’re going to need to come up with another excuse. You’re a werewolf, not a werechicken. Just ask her to go out to dinner. What’s the worst that could happen?”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

It’s rather difficult to tell you too much about the story without giving away the details of the plot, but I’m try and drop a few teasers.

  • The reader will get to meet several new and unique supernatural creatures in this story that are sure to keep you guessing until the very end when it comes to you and what they are.
  • One of these unique creatures is so amazing, he’ll end up getting his own series. Once you read the story, you’ll immediately know who I’m talking about. This character and his story jump off the page.
  • The restaurant in the Greenville area that Trey and Samantha go to on their first date is real. The menu, including favorites such as cheddar fries, chicken strips, chili dogs, and chili cheddar burgers with double beef patties, are also very real and look so good I think I started drooling as I researched the site. Basically, I got no writing done that day and spent all my time looking at food porn instead.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

This is the scene where we see Trey and Samantha dancing around their attraction to each other and that moment when Samantha decides to chance the dynamics…

Samantha was too caught up in Trey’s blue eyes to answer right away. Sometimes they seemed darker in color, like the sky at night. Other times, they reminded her of the sky on a sunny day. She wondered if it was possible for eyes to change color like that, to lighten and darken with one’s mood. Maybe she should ask for permission to lay on his chest for a few hours to study them just to see if she was right.
But while lying atop Trey certainly sounded like fun, Samantha realized maybe she needed to start with something a little less familiar.
“If I’m going to use up one of my favors,” she said softly, keenly aware of Trey leaning in even more, then closing his eyes and inhaling. Like he was trying to breathe in her scent. “It wouldn’t be for snooping into either of their backgrounds.”
“What would you use it on then?” he asked, lifting his gaze to hers. Oh yeah, his eyes definitely darkened a bit more, like the ocean in the middle of a storm.
Inspiration hit then, and Samantha didn’t even pause to wonder if she should do it or not.
“I’d use it to have you take me out to dinner,” she said before she could come to her senses and chicken out.
From the way Trey gaped, Samantha could tell she’d thrown the big cop for a loop. Fear and doubt immediately started creeping in, making her think she’d royally screwed up. Maybe Trey was one of those men who was more comfortable doing the asking instead of being asked. She didn’t like to think someone who was clearly so strong and confident would be insecure over something like that. But maybe she’d read him all wrong.
“Are you asking me out on a date?” he said, and she was relieved when she saw a spark of interest there in those mesmerizing eyes. Like he suddenly found a game he unequivocally liked.
She stepped closer, smiling as his eyes darkened again. “Actually, I’m using one of my favors to have you ask me out. That way, I can be progressive and traditional at the same time. That doesn’t bother you, does it?”
He grinned, his expression making her pulse skip a beat. “Definitely not. I’m a huge fan of progressive traditions. Dinner tomorrow night work for you?”
She had to force herself not to pump her fist in excitement. “It does.”

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

Rogue Wolf is the twelfth book in the Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) Series, and we just invite our readers to continue their adventures with the SWAT Pack as the team does everything it can to keep the world safe, while hopefully finding love and The One for each of them at the same time. There’ll be all the suspense, excitement, thrills, and steamy romance you expect from a Paige Tyler story, along with a few twists and loads of angst you probably won’t see coming.

If you could have given your characters one piece of advice before the opening pages of the book, what would it be and why?

Stop thinking so much. It just gets in the way of a good romance.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Rogue Wolf:

Trey and Samantha start to give into the chemistry between them…

Trey pulled back and stared down into her eyes, his gaze intense. “I wasn’t implying we have to rush anything if you aren’t ready for that.”
Samantha caught her breath, pretty sure her heart had never beaten this hard in her life. “And if I am ready?”
Gaze never leaving hers, Trey slipped his hands under her butt, picking her up easily. She instinctively locked her ankles together behind his back, wrapping her arms tightly around his broad shoulders and holding on like a koala bear even though she knew in her heart that he’d never let her fall.
Samantha expected Trey to make a beeline straight down the hallway to her bedroom, but it turned out he was in no hurry, slowing when he was halfway across the living room to gently set her butt on the back of the couch. She kept her legs wrapped around him as he kissed her again, his tongue teasing hers, the taste of him enough to nearly drive her crazy. When she felt his jean-covered hard-on pressing against the sensitive area between her thighs, her hips started rolling as if they had a mind of their own.
She slid her hands under Trey’s T-shirt, letting her fingers trace their way up his muscular abs as she pushed the soft material up his chest. She did her very best not to gasp out loud, but as he moved back so she could get the garment over his head, she found herself hypnotized by the tattoo of a wolf head on the left side of his chest.
She’d seen it before, when he flashed it briefly at the restaurant on their first date, but now it took on a whole new meaning. She was surprised he’d so blatantly put his wolf secret out there for the whole world to see. Then again, maybe it was his way of dealing with something so overwhelming—tattooing the truth of it right on his chest was the only possible way for him to deal with it.
Reaching out, she glided her fingertips across his heavily muscled chest, up from the deep divide between his pecs, slowly tracing the outline of the wolf. The work was exquisite, the exposed fangs making the creature appear both savage and protective at the same time. She could easily spend hours staring at the tattoo, memorizing every single line and curve of it.
“Do you like tattoos?” he asked softly, the deep rumble of his voice seeming to vibrate up from deep in his chest. The lights from the lamp beside the couch reflected off his eyes in that crazy way it seemed to do with him, making his irises almost glow with a yellow-gold glimmer. It had to be the most amazing, arousing thing she’d ever seen.
“I like this tattoo.”
She scraped her nails down the figure like she was running her fingers through the creature’s fur. The wolf gazed at her, the intensity in those eyes making it seem like the animal could see into her soul, and she caught her breath. She couldn’t wait any longer. She had to tell Trey the truth. Right now.
She lifted her head to look at him. “I have to tell you something.”
“Later,” he said, the words almost sounding like a growl as he said them. “Much later.”

Book Info:

“I quite like the idea of being able to take your breath away.”
Samantha realized then that she was in trouble. There genuinely was something about this man that took her breath away. It both scared and thrilled her at the same time.
“Then kiss me and see if it happens again,” she whispered.

There’s a wicked attraction between Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) werewolf Trey Duncan and medical examiner Samantha Mills, but Trey’s never worked up the nerve to ask her out until now. But the trouble with wolves is that they’re never far from danger, and this time Trey is going up against a monster the likes of which his Dallas SWAT team has never seen… It’s going to take everything Trey and Samantha have to crack the case and protect each other.

I one time got stuck in an elevator and the man I was with started flirting with me. But it was a weird situation and not romantic at all.He came on too strong and I definitely was not interested. Thankfully we were only in the elevator for about 20 minutes.

  2. Texas Book Lover

It was probably 10 years ago now at work…I had this guy come in over and over wanting me to show him vacant space. He knew I was married and just didn’t care. He kept trying to get me to go out with him it was very blatant.

Sitting in a pew at our church. My hubby was standing with the kids by the confessionals off to the side. Cute man came over to introduce himself. I gave him my name and said I was waiting for my family.

  4. Glenda M

Sitting in the dirt on a mountain trail with my knee cut wide open. I’m pretty sure the EMS guy was just trying to distract me though since he was also at least 15 years younger than me.

  5. Lori Byrd

I had just had a seizure at this Mexican restaurant and when I came to a doctor that was helping me was flirting really bad. It was awkward.
