Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Cathleen Ross to HJ!
Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi I’m Cathleen Ross and I’m thrilled to be here to talk to you about my new release Rough and Ready

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

Hugo Boudreaux is a highly trained soldier, who after ten years of service, isn’t sure he can fit back into mainstream life. Alice Kaintuck is the daughter of a highly dangerous biker President, who just wants a normal guy. The trouble is Hugo is assigned to be her bodyguard and he is irresitable.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

Hugo lay on his back. He’d complicated the hell out of his assignment. Hell, he never bonded with women enough to want to keep fucking them. Sure, he’d had relationships, but they’d been with army women who knew the score. When the assignment was done, he moved on. They moved on. No long-distance relationships. No emotional entanglements. So why did Alice feel so right tucked under his arm, her hand running up and down his abdomen, touching his scars with trepidation on her face, ever the nurse?
“Hugo?”
“Hmmm?”
“That was really something.”
“You’d better be saying I’m the best you ever had.”
She laughed. She pushed herself onto her elbow, her intelligent blue-eyed gaze traveling over his abdomen, her fingers hovering over one of his bullet wounds.
“You counting my scars?” he asked.
“You should call yourself ‘lucky’.”
“Why’s that?”
“You survived three tours. Did you know that there is a higher risk of post-traumatic stress after three tours?” she said, her expression concerned.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. You always this caring?” He wasn’t used to it.
“I come from a long line of nurses on my mother’s side. I love my job. I look after mothers and babies. It’s just heaven, unless a baby is very sick. That’s miserable.”
“You’re made to love.” The opposite of him. Fuck! This mission is going to be a pain in the ass. He held her hand and kissed it, running his thumb over the delicate bones beneath her skin.
“I wouldn’t like anything bad to happen to you. I’m glad you’ve done with serving,” she said.
This was a nice girl. Shit. He needed to get this job done fast and get out, or she’d be baking that apple pie he thought about when he looked at her sweetness.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

For an actioned packed sexy read, Rough and Ready delves deep into what a woman really wants out of a man.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Alice Kaintuck is sweet. The type of blonde-haired gal who lives in a nice home with a picket fence. This is what attracts Hugo Boudreaux to her.
Alice Kaintuck is attracted to Hugo. Who wouldn’t be? After all, he’s handsome, dangerous and a great lover. Just the type of man she shouldn’t stay with.

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

My editor asked me to write a book with rough sex in it. I admit this was out of my comfort zone. Luckily I have a good imagination.

“You ever play games before?” he asked her.
“No. My one relationship was conservative.”
“One, huh? That bore you?”
“No. It was fine.” She’d thought they were planning a life together.
“Fine? What’s fine? What was he? Missionary man?”
“Truth was he worked such long hours and I was studying and working, sex didn’t feature much.” He didn’t make time for her, or he’d cancel at the last minute because of a long surgery. She wasn’t his priority.
“You settled for that?”
“Don’t torment me, Hugo.” She flicked her hand, slapping him lightly to hide the rawness of her broken heart. “I thought he was a good man. He saves babies for God’s sake. I admired him and his dedication to his work. That was a serious relationship. We’d snatch time together. I wasn’t focused on the sex. To be honest, I didn’t like it that much.”
“What?”
She shrugged, trying to ignore his shocked expression. “It wasn’t that good, okay? Maybe I wasn’t that good, but I thought we were forever.”
“Nothing’s forever, sweetheart.”

Readers should read this book….

Because it’s fun, it’s heartbreaking too and it’s a fast-paced read.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I’m working on a Scottish Lords and Ladies series for Entangled Publishing, which I’m really enjoying writing. It won’t be out until April 2020.

Excerpt from Rough and Ready:

The seven a.m. to seven p.m. shift was a bitch, but this time Hugo would be waiting for her at the end of it. She only had to stir, and his grip on her waist tightened as if he were guarding her in her sleep. It was great to feel him beside her, but work was work, and she was never late. “Hugo, let me go.”
His eyes snapped open, and in the early morning light she noticed he had teal-colored bands around his green irises. He pulled her close, and his erection pressed against her hip. “Morning, gorgeous,” he said with an I-want-to-fuck-you grin.
She met his grin with one of her own, remembering the extraordinary sex they’d had last night. “I have to get up and shower. I start work in an hour.”
She slithered from his grasp and climbed out of bed when he grabbed her from behind and yanked her onto her back, climbing on top of her. She squealed with the play of it, her heart racing, and she stared up at him.
His expression had hardened so that his face was tight and his normally wide eyes slitted with intent. He had a feral, hungry look about him.
“Is this what you mean by rough sex?”
“Do you want it to be?”
“I’m not sure. I know we talked things through, but doing is different from talking. I’m scared and interested.”
“I’ll go easy on you the first few times until you know what to expect.” He forced her hands above her head and pinioned them, his whole body totally covering hers, weighing her down. She’d never been physically forced. The doctor had been a gentle lover with soft white hands. Hugo’s hands had calluses and scars, and his body was hard and muscled everywhere. A shiver of apprehension overtook her.
“You want me to stop, say it. Understand?”
Just the way he spoke to her made her wet.
“Answer me,” he ordered.
“I understand.”
“You want this?”
“Yes.”
He transferred his weight onto his knees, took her hands into one of his own, freeing the other. He reached between her legs and touched her there, his forefinger sliding over her clitoris. “I want you wet because I’m going to fuck you hard and cover you in my cum. You’re going to know you’re mine. Open your thighs.”
She was used to rough talk from men, but not dirty stuff that made her think of rape. It was terrifying, and she wondered which was the real Hugo? She barely knew this man.
“Open them or I’ll make you,” he said, his voice rough and mean.
“St…stop.”
The change in his expression was instantaneous. “You okay, Alice?”
“Yes. I lost you, and it frightened me. I wanted to see if the nice Hugo I know would come back.”
He grinned, and his eyes crinkled at the sides. “I’m always here. Want to keep playing?”
“Sure.”
He released her hands and pushed her thighs open, sliding two fingers in deep, pressing the pad of his thumb on her clit. She gasped at the invasion. Her leg muscles protested, and she swatted him, but he gripped her wrists and with a deadly stare forced them over her head again.
She stared at him, amazed at the transformation from mannered Hugo to someone else. Someone feral. It was a game, but instinctively she knew, when it came to sex, this was the real Hugo.
“You are going to learn to do as I say. Come when I say.”
Still sensitive from the night before, she groaned as a ripple of pleasure coursed through her.
He rotated his thumb around her clit, stroking over the sensitive top, moving swiftly with light precision, the pressure not firm enough to let her get off. She bucked her hips, trying to increase the pressure, but he lifted his hand slightly. All thoughts of being late for work left her mind; instead, she looked up into his face with its sardonic smile.
“Damn you, Hugo.”
“Yeah, I’m damned. A real bastard.”
