Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Lisa Renee Jones to HJ!
Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Lisa and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Savage Burn!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

This is the second book in my Savage Trilogy! It picks up right where the first one left off. It continues the story of Savage and Candace as they passionately reconnect and navigate the dangers that are hunting them both.

Please share the opening lines of this book:

The car that I just ran off the road idles in the ditch a good two hundred feet away, and the driver has yet to exit. Seems he left his balls back on the highway where he started following me. Pussy bitch-ass bastard better grow some new ones because fear won’t save him. I’m coming for him, and not to whisper in his ear. More like rip it off his head.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

There’s a scene in this book that had me in stitches, I was laugh so hard. It’s a scene that harkens back to my book, Pulled Under, and I think readers who read that book will enjoy the scene. Even readers who haven’t will hopefully find it hilarious. Another fun fact, I listened to nothing but Jason Aldean sounds while I was writing this book.

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?

I’ve been writing Savage as a secondary character for several years now, so to finally be able to explore and show more of his character was tons of fun. He’s much more multi-faceted than I’ve been able to show before this series. And Candace, his woman, is just the perfect woman for him. Tough and endearing. Everything that he needs to make him the rough and funny man he is.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

The fight scene leading up to one of the sexier scenes in the book. It would show the actors have the ability to create the passion between Savage and Candace that’s needed.

“I need to know you aren’t going to wake up next to a monster and run away.”
“You say you don’t run. I don’t run.”
“I need you to know who I am. You won’t even admit who I am.”
“I know who you are. You forget that I like it when you’re bad.”
“I’m fucking serious, Candace.”
“Show me then. Show me how bad you are.” His hand settles on my backside, fingers flexing in my hips, a promise of what is to come next in that touch.
“That’s not a challenge you want answered, baby. I’ll win. You will lose.”
“I guess I’ll just have to take that chance and so will you.”

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

A dying need to read book three 🙂

Excerpt from Savage Burn:

“Rick—”
“I need to kiss you,” he murmurs, but when he would press his mouth to my mouth, I pull back. “Your lip.”
“Am I bleeding?”
“Yes,” I say inspecting the swelling of his top lip, and the blood on his goatee. “Actually, it’s your chin. And maybe above your lips, your actual lip isn’t bleeding, but—”
“Then fuck it,” he says, and he’s already kissing me again, and when this man kisses me, it’s impossible to resist. He does it right. He kisses me like the world’s about to end and this is the last kiss we’ll ever share. And maybe it is. Maybe all of this doesn’t just end, maybe it ends us. Maybe he’s going to leave. Maybe he already knows. It’s not like he came back on his own.
It’s the thought I didn’t mean to have, the one that rips me out of the fantasy moment and plants me in reality.
I press on his chest, tearing my mouth from his. “You feel like the same man that left me.”
“I’m not the same man.”
I don’t ask if that’s good or bad. He’s made his opinion of himself quite obvious. “You judge yourself as evil and me a fool for seeing a hero.”
A storm settles heavy in his stare. “I told you,” he turns me and pushes me to the counter, his powerful body pressed to mine. “Don’t turn me into a hero.”
“If you think you’re a monster, you have an excuse to act like one. Or is it to leave?” I don’t wait for a reply. “You don’t get that pass with me, Rick.”
“Is that right?”
“Yes. That’s right.”
He turns me and my hands catch on the counter, his
breath hot at my neck. “I should punish you for being so foolish.” He leans in close. “But you aren’t foolish, are you? You know me better than anyone. You know I have a dark side. You always knew.”
“Then why are we pretending I don’t?”
“I’m not, but you still are and that doesn’t work for us anymore, baby.” His voice is a rough timbre that vibrates hot on my neck.
He pulls my pants down, his powerful hands shifting me, moving me, and in seconds it seems, I’m naked, and my hands are back on the counter, holding my weight. “I need to know you aren’t going to wake up next to a monster and run away.”
“You say you don’t run. I don’t run.”
“I need you to know who I am. You won’t even admit who I am.”
The thick pulse of his erection is at my hip and my thighs are slick with arousal. “I know who you are. You forget that I like it when you’re bad.”
“I’m fucking serious, Candace.”
“Show me then. Show me how bad you are.”
His hand settles on my backside, fingers flexing in my hips, a promise of what is to come next in that touch. “That’s not a challenge you want answered, baby. I’ll win. You will lose.”
“I guess I’ll just have to take that chance and so will you

I would probably wait until the series is complete and then read them all at once.

Between waiting for the complete series and being okay if I know it’s coming, depending on the circumstances.

  6. Karina Angeles

I hate cliffhangers! Especially when the author waits almost a year to send out the next story. I wait til the series is completely done to start reading them.

  7. Mari Ann

I’m ok as long as I don’t have to wait Forever! Omg, I’m not going to name names but there’s this series that it was like a yr between books ugh bleh , by that time I had already forgot what’s happening.truly i was really not into reading everything again.

  11. mathlady68

I hate cliffhangers. I know lots of your series have them so I have to decide if I am going to read as the books drop or wait till all of the books are available. I needed Savage’s story so I bought book 1 right away. Darn cliffhanger!!!

  12. Nicole (Nicky) Ortiz

I’m not a fan, I usually wait til there all out so I could binge read
    Thanks for the chance!

  13. erinf1

love hate relationship! LOL… hate them cuz, I wanna know what happens! But I don’t have the patience to wait 🙂 thanks for sharing!

  14. laurieg72

I prefer books not to have a cliffhanger. I like knowing the book is complete on its own. I guess I would read one if I knew the next book would have the ending. The book would have to be coming out soon.

  15. Terrill R.

I don’t mind cliffhangers as long as the story isn’t a serial. I also like them to release close together or I will wait until their all released or very soon to be released.
