Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Aleatha and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Secrets!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

First, thank you for having SECRETS in HJ’s spotlight! I’m super excited to be back to my signature dark romance. I can’t wait for everyone to read.

Summary of SECRETS in my own words:
SECRETS is book one, the exhilarating beginning, of the WEB OF SIN trilogy. This story is about a woman who has lived in secrets and lies her entire life from no fault of her own. At sixteen years of age her adoptive mother hands her a new identity, tells her to board a plane to a new life and to never return to Chicago. Her most dire warning is that the devil is after her and his name is Sparrow.
This exhilarating journey leads Kennedy (the identity her mother gave her) back to Chicago and into the arms of a dark mysterious stranger who offers her what no one else ever has…he offers to uncover her secrets. He offers to tell her who she really is. What he won’t say at first is that his name is Sterling Sparrow.

Please share the opening lines of this book:

Chapter 1 (POV Kennedy)

I gripped the arms to the chair, refusing to allow a decade-old warning to affect me. I’d tried to forget it, to move on, as I’d been told to do. Yet forgetting the reason you lost your second set of parents at sixteen years of age was not easy.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • The Web of Sin trilogy is primarily set in Chicago. Being a resident of Indiana, I have always loved Chicago, from Christmas shopping as a young girl to Lake Shore Drive and Wrigley Field.
  • When trying to decide my anti-hero’s name, I was at a family reunion where I was told about distant relatives sir named SPARROW. I knew right away I had my anti-hero’s last name.
  • With the title of the trilogy WEB OF SIN, my husband came to me with the name Araneae (pronounced both: Uh-rain-ā and uh-rain-e-eye in this series). Once I learned the word means “spider,” I knew I had my heroine’s name.

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?

I ADORE both of these characters. My protagonist, my heroine, is spit-fire and determination. Being on her own since she was sixteen has made her strong and independent. She’s truly a force to be reckoned with. I was surprised by her non-filtered responses and fell in love with her come-backs and retorts.
My antagonist, anti-hero, is everything you expect in a dark romance anti-hero. He’s confident, sexy, persuasive, demanding, and possessive. And as I got to know him better, I was surprised by his blatant honesty and willingness to go to any length to protect those he cares about and what is his.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

I would probably use the scene where the two meet face to face for the first time.

“Taking one step beyond the doorframe, I froze. We were no longer alone. My mind reeled at the man behind Ricardo’s desk. “What? Why are—”
“Patrick, you may go.”
I didn’t recognize the deep voice commanding my driver, and in the darkened room with only a circle of light from the desk lamp, I couldn’t see the whole of the man behind the desk. However, as my knees grew weak, I knew.
I knew he was the man from before in the parking lot.
I didn’t need to see all of him.
This man filled the office with an overpowering aura. In the circle of light, I saw large hands steepled beneath a strong chin covered in trimmed dark hair and a white starched shirt stretched over a wide muscular chest.
“And close the door.”
His commands held no room for debate, yet that was exactly my plan. “Wait,” I said, turning back, but Patrick was already on his retreat. The man I thought to be my protector wasn’t looking at me, but nodding to the man behind the desk. He wasn’t my protector at all. He was my traitor.”

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

I want people to be enthralled, to not be able to stop reading, and to know that the Aleatha Romig from Consequences and Infidelity is back! I damn, I’m glad to be back.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I’m working on marketing for Secrets and the entire Web of Sin trilogy. Book one -SECRETS- is ready to go. Book two- LIES- is with audible. Book three- PROMISES- is in editing. This has been a whirlwind writing process. My Audible contract required complete and edited manuscripts sixty days prior to release. I’m very excited to have the releases only five weeks apart, but it’s been a lot of work!
SECRETS- October 30, 2018
LIES- December 4, 2018
PROMISES- January 8, 2019.

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from Secrets:

Araneae POV
I wasn’t certain what made me do it—a sense, a feeling, a presence…
I looked up to the doorway beside the television and sucked in a breath. The previously open space was now filled with his broad shoulders and height. Like the image I’d had, he’d materialized. Yet he wasn’t an apparition. The mountain of a man was real.
In stunned silence, I scanned him up and down. His clothes were casual compared to the outfit he’d prepared for me. He wore blue jeans, worn in all the right places, hanging low from his hips, and showcasing his long legs and thick, powerful thighs. His collarless shirt fit well, highlighting a broad neck, a defined torso, and broad biceps.
Though I could gaze upon his body for hours, that wasn’t what stilled my pulse to the point of feeling faint. It was his eyes, the way they looked, not at me but into me. No longer was I imagining his dark stare. It was trained on me.
How was he here?
We hadn’t landed.
“Sterling?”
The tips of his lips moved upward as his penetrating stare scorched my skin. From the tips of my toes in the ridiculously high shoes, all the way to the chain lying between my breasts, and up to my recently styled hair, he took in every inch. Each second his eyes roamed was the strike of a match, igniting tiny fuses and detonating each of my nerves, until my skin peppered with goose bumps and my nipples hardened.
That wasn’t the only effect of his stare. Thank God I’d brought underwear.

Book Info:

The twisted and intriguing storytelling that you loved in Consequences and Infidelity is coming back at you with an all-new alpha anti-hero in the dark romance series Web of Sin, by New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

I’m Sterling Sparrow. You’ve no doubt heard my name or read it on the top of tall buildings. There’s more to my business—my realm—than what is seen aboveground.

Within the underbelly of one of America’s largest cities lives a world where a man’s word is either his most valuable tool or his most respected weapon. When my father ruled that world and that city, he promised me someone who would one day make my reign complete.

Since that day, long ago, Araneae McCrie has been mine.

She just didn’t know.

My father is now gone.

The city and the underbelly are now mine.

The time has come for me to collect who was promised to me, to shred her life of secrets and make her who she’s always been—mine.

Have you been Aleatha’d?

*Secrets is book one of the Web of Sin trilogy.
