Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Annie Rains to HJ!
Hi Annie and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Springtime at Hope Cottage!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
When opposites attract…
As an editor at a major New York City magazine, Josie Kellum is always on the go…until an injury sidelines her in the small town of Sweetwater Springs. Luckily, her new physical therapist is easy going and easy on the eyes. When their sessions start to heat up, in more ways than one, Josie is intrigued. But she has a city and career she loves waiting for her. So why does the thought of leaving him suddenly feel a lot like leaving home?
Tucker Locklear is just starting to move on after his wife’s death. While he can’t deny his attraction to the gorgeous, vivacious Josie, he won’t risk the pain of losing someone again. The sooner he gets Josie back on her feet and back to her real life, the safer he’ll be. But in Sweetwater Springs, love has a way of mending even the most damaged heart.
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
- Tuck is Native American, which involved quite a bit of research for his character. He is Cherokee Indian so I had one of my favorite readers who is of Cherokee heritage read an early version of the book to make sure I got the details just right. Tuck’s sister Halona is also Cherokee Indian and will be the heroine of my Christmas release this year (coupled with Chief of Police Alex Baker).
- Maddie is a side character in the book and one of Tuck’s physical therapy patients. Her role in the story was unplanned. When she showed up in her first scene, she changed the course of the book (for the better!).
- On average, writing this book required that I drink 3-4 cups of coffee a day ☺
- The heroine of Springtime at Hope Cottage, Josie Kellum, is a New York journalist, which is what I wanted to be in high school. I took a semester of journalism courses in college, but writing novels has always been my dream so I didn’t pursue the major.
- Instead, I pursued an occupational therapy major in college because it was a field that would allow me to be creative. I work closely with physical therapists in my day job, which helped with this book’s research because Tuck is a PT. Tuck treats a wide range of patients in the book along with his therapy dog Shadow (which also required a bit of research).

Darkness settled in around them as the sun relinquished its spot in the sky. Then Josie turned to Tuck, finding him closer than she expected. She also found him watching her instead of the horizon.
“Thank you,” he said in a low voice. “I must say, Mom isn’t easy to win over. I suspect she came to make sure she approved of you before we got married.”
Josie’s mouth fell open. “Married? We’re not even dating.”
“That’s just a technicality to my mom,” he said on a soft chuckle. “And since she likes you, she’ll start planning the wedding tomorrow. It’ll be a traditional Cherokee ceremony, of course.”
Josie laughed quietly too. “I’m sure she’s well-meaning.”
“She is. And for the record, Mom always finds fault with the women I’ve dated, ever since high school. Even Renee at first.”
“Really?”
“You’re the first one she genuinely seemed to like from the get-go. She’ll be disappointed when she realizes that there’s nothing going on between us.”
Josie swallowed. “Aside from those two kisses.” And a whole fleet of butterflies in her belly.
“I have a confession to make,” he said, his voice dipping even lower.
She ran her tongue over her lips, wetting them just in case of an accidental collision of their mouths. “Oh?”
“That first kiss didn’t get anything out of my system. The more I try to resist you, the more I want you, Josie.” His gaze dropped to her mouth, and everything inside her seemed to buzz with intense awareness.
“I know the feeling,” she said without thinking. That happened a lot when he was mere inches away.
He slid even closer, keeping his heated gaze locked with hers. There was something hungry in his eyes. She felt it too. Three Sisters Stew couldn’t quench this hunger. The only thing that could was his mouth, his hands, his body.
He reached behind her head and pulled her hair tie out. “I’ve been dying to do that since the day we met.”
She laughed, surprised to find his quick movements oddly erotic. Then, midlaugh, his mouth covered hers and they were kissing. His hands threaded through her hair as he tugged her to him. He was such a good kisser that she could only imagine how great he’d be at other things. Things she shouldn’t be fantasizing about. Tuck was right. The harder they resisted, the more tension crackled between them, driving a need within her for more, more, more.
If they stayed on this swing though, there was no risk of going too far.
Shadow pressed her wet nose into Josie’s thigh. Josie started to pull away but Tuck held her to him.
“Oh no you don’t. You’re mine right now,” he whispered against her mouth.
And she was. All his, if only for this moment.

We are yearly members at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens so springtime means Sunday afternoons with my wife and my camera as we stroll the paths and byways enjoying the appearance of new growth. Flowers, bushes and trees showing their new colors.

I’m probably one of the few people who hate spring. For me springtime means WORSE allergies than normal. But I do love looking at all the colorful flowers
