Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Jennifer and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, True Love Cowboy!

Thank you so much for inviting me. I’m excited to be here.

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

TRUE LOVE COWBOY brings the McGrath series to an end with Trinity McGrath, sister to three overprotective big brothers. They’ve all found their happy-ever-after. And when Trinity meets Jon, sparkls fly, even though neither of them are looking for love. Jon is a single dad, Trinity a chef and shop owner, who charms Jon and his daughter with her kind heart and brownies! But when Jon’s ex starts making trouble, these two will band together to give Emmy the love and family she deserves.

Please share the opening lines of this book:

Trinity knocked on Mr. Crawford’s door for the fourth time and still go no answer. She didn’t usually walk into other people’s homes, but this seemed like an emergency. What if he was too sick to make it to the door?

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • The book is loosely based on couple I know. I watched as their love died and the family tore apart due to drug and mental health issues and a little girl suffered.
  • As always, this book is brought to you by copious amounts of coffee, tea, and chocolate!

Please tell us a little about the characters in your book. As you wrote your protagonist was there anything about them that surprised you?

Trinity is a chef with a huge heart. She’s suffering from PTSD after being kidnapped by her sister-in-laws abusive ex. She’s strong and smart and stands up for others.

Jon is a sexy, smart businessman, moving back home to Montana to be closer to family and raise his little girl on a ranch so he can show her the appreciation he has for family, the land, and animals.
Emmy is super excited to find a fairy god-stepmother in Trinity, someone who goes out of her way to make Emmy smile and keep her safe.

It surprised me that despite all Jon faced coming home, he couldn’t ignore the immediate spark between him and Trinity. Even though he’d been burned by his ex, he still didn’t pass up a chance at love.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

I love a first kiss. And I’d want whoever played Trinity and Jon to have great chemistry.

True Love Cowboy…
“This was probably the best date I’ve ever had.”
She chuckled. “I’m sorry you’ve had so many bad dates then if a simple dinner tops your list.”
“It was the company that made my night.” With that, he slowly leaned down, giving her time to back out if she wanted to, though she seemed immobilized by his yearning gaze and her own anticipation. He finally kissed her softly. His warm lips remained over hers, tempting her into something deeper, but she liked the buzz of electricity and lingered in the moment.
Jon leaned back just an inch and stared into her eyes. “After getting burned by my ex, I feel like I should be a hell of a lot more cautious. But the truth is I’ve wanted to do that since the night at the hospital when I shouldn’t have been thinking about it at all. But I just couldn’t help myself.” His boldness matched her own when she’d invited him to stay for dinner.
So she went with it. “You should kiss me again.” She didn’t wait for him but met him in the middle and wrapped her arms around his neck. His tongue touched her lips and she opened to him. The slide of his tongue against hers, the very taste of him, sparked a flash of desperate need that had them locked together, bodies pressed tight to one another. She didn’t think she’d ever been kissed like this. Nothing had ever felt this right and tempting and sexy and all-encompassing at once.
“Daddy?” Emmy’s soft voice was the only thing that could tear them from each other.
Jon jolted back and stared into the back of the car. “Damn. That was totally worth the risk.” He cupped her face in one hand and brushed his thumb against her cheek. “I’m sorry. I have to go.” He rushed over to the driver’s door, opened it, and ducked his head inside. “I’m right here, sweetheart. Go back to sleep while I drive us home.”
He turned back to Trinity and took her in with one hot dip of his gaze down her body and back up to her face. “You look so good in that dress.” The look he gave her said he’d rather see her out of it.
She smiled because her heart felt lighter than it had in a long time because of his sweet words and that sexy as hell look he gave her that said a lot about how much he wanted her. It felt so good to be wanted like that by him.

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

Love can find you when you aren’t even looking for it. Standing up for others is never wrong, especially when you lead with your heart. And surprises can be the greatest gift you’ll ever receive.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I’m working on a brand new series – Wyoming Wilde. The series starts with Chase Wilde, who fans met in Tough Talking Cowboy. He’s a wounded warrior suffering from PTSD and addiction, who wants nothing more than to be a father to his daughter, and turn the woman who was a one-night stand into his wife because though he’s faced death many times, he knows one thing for sure – he can’t live without her. CHASE WILDE COMES HOME is up for preorder now!

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from True Love Cowboy:

He took the handles at the back of the wheelchair and pushed Trinity out of the room and back to hers. He helped her stand because her balance was off right now and held her still so she could get her bearings, but all she wanted was to be in his arms. She stepped into him and he wrapped his arms around her and held her loosely, because of her ribs, but close.
She breathed him in.
He sighed out his relief. “I wanted to be with you last night, to hold your hand, help you through all the scans, and be here for you while the doctors checked you out and stitched and bandaged you up.”
She stepped back so she could see him, but kept her hands on his arms for balance. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be with you last night and help Emmy.”
Jon stared down at her, surprise and puzzlement in his eyes. “Seriously? You could have died.” His throat worked as he swallowed hard. “I almost lost you, and you’re sorry you weren’t with me and Emmy last night. I don’t deserve that. I should have taken Emmy away from Steph a long time ago.”
She hated seeing the self-loathing in his eyes. “You’re close to doing just that.”
“Too little, too late. She nearly killed you and Emmy is covered in bruises all down her back.”
Trinity gasped. “Oh no.”
“She’s going to be okay,” he assured her. “The point is, if I’d done what was necessary sooner, none of this would have happened.”
“Steph did this. She was drunk and stoned and let her anger, resentment, and jealousy get the better of her.”
“She should be jealous, because you’re kind enough to try to understand her after what she did to you and you’re the mother I want for Emmy. You’re perfect.”
“I’m not,” she assured him. She had her flaws, but she liked that they blurred or disappeared when he looked at her.
“You are for me. That’s why I love you so damn much.”
She had to let loose her aching hands the second she gripped him tighter. “What?”
“You heard me. But if you’re having trouble processing that, I can say it again. I love you. And while it’s not the time to really talk about it, I think you know that I want a life with you. I can’t lose you, Trinity. You mean everything to me.” He kissed her. Long and soft, it spun out and time stopped, and she simply lost herself in him and the amazing way he made her feel.
When he ended the kiss, she felt a little dizzy and it had nothing to do with her head injury and everything to do with the buzz of electricity and love running through her.
She didn’t open her eyes. She simply let herself feel and smiled with the sheer joy of it. “I love you, too.”
Jon pressed his forehead to hers. “Look at me,” he pleaded.
She opened her eyes and stared into his, the blue depths filled with longing. “Stay with me at my place. Let me take care of you.”
“I remember thinking when I saw what was happening at Steph’s place that I’d take Emmy home to be with us. In my mind . . . and my heart . . . I knew that home meant being with you.”
“Then be with me.”
“Then take me and Emmy home.”
Jon held her for a moment. “I’m never going to let anything happen to you again.”

It is usually so hard on children when a marriage breaks up. Heading home for the support of family for stability and love in raising a family is often a wise decision. It sounds like Emmy is at an age when having a mother figure is needed and important. Trinity sounds like the perfect person to welcomer and give her the love and attention she needs. It sounds like it will be an enjoyable read.
