Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Sawyer Bennett to HJ!
Hi Sawyer and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, wicked Billionaire!
Hello, HJ readers!
To start off, can you please tell us a little bit about this book?:
Wicked Billionaire is the final release of the Wicked Horse Vegas series, set around the Wicked Horse, a sex club high above the strip in Las Vegas. A workplace romance, Declan Blackwood, the heir to the Blackwood fortune, gets involved with his assistant, Bailey Robbins. What starts as a sex only arrangement in the Wicked Horse turns to more, leaving Declan unsure how to proceed.
Please share your favorite lines or quote(s) from this book:
“Yes, Mr. Blackwood?” she says primly.
Last night, it was “Fuck me harder, Declan,” and, “I don’t think I can come again.”
What inspired this book?
I always love a good workplace romance! Who doesn’t love it when the closed off, rich asshole of a boss falls for the woman he never saw coming?
How did you ‘get to know’ your main characters? Did they ever surprise you?
He wasn’t quite the asshole I thought he would be when I first started. Don’t get me wrong, he definitely has his moments. But when I first set out to write this story, I thought he’d be much more unlikeable and harder to redeem. Turns out his good guy wasn’t as far under the surface as I’d thought.
What was your favorite scene to write?
Late in the book they have a date, a real date that doesn’t involve The Wicked Horse, and I loved having Declan just be a ‘real’ person. He’s lived in his ivory tower for so long, it was nice to see him do the things ‘normal’ people do. Here’s a little peek:
We ended up back in Vegas. She took me downtown, where I had yet to step foot in all my time here. We visited the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum. We walked along Fremont Street, and she talked me into riding the SlotZilla zip line along the mall.
All things I never in a million years would have dreamed to do. Even if I had, I would have never taken the time for something so… silly.
And yet, in shuffling through my memories, I can’t remember having such a great time before.
Even now, as we walk back along Fremont Street—having grabbed some hot dogs from a food truck for dinner—I don’t want the day to end.
Bailey laughs, and I look over to see what’s so funny as I arrange the wrapper on my hot dog so I can manage a bite.
She smirks, also working at exposing her meal so she can eat it.
“What’s so funny?” I ask.
“It’s just… have you ever eaten a hot dog for dinner?” she asks.
I give her a faux glare, her question bordering on impertinent and an indirect slam at my upbringing. Secretly, though, I find it hilarious. “Of course I’ve had hot dogs,” I say imperiously. “But only if we had Grey Poupon in the fridge.”
Bailey snort laughs. “Good one.”
What was the most difficult scene to write?
There is a scene where Declan takes Bailey to dinner at his parents’ house where his parents and sister are present. His family is dysfunctional, and they are…cold, at best. I’m not used to this type of family dynamic, and have a difficult time with anyone treating family they way they do. This sums up all you need to know about Declan’s family:
“Could you possibly be any more impolite to a guest in our home?” Declan asks. It takes me a second to understand his question.
Then it hits me hard. His anger at his sister has naught to do with her question, but rather because of the way she so rudely brushed me off.
I fight the urge to shrink in my chair as conversations cease. All eyes are on Marissa, which puts me in the crosshairs since I’m beside her and my question led us here.
Marissa waves a hand dismissively. “I answered her question. What more do you want? It’s not like I have anything in common with your hired help.”
At this point, I struggle not to laugh. Because she’s not wrong about that. I can tell I have absolutely nothing in common with this snobbish, two-dimensional woman, but it’s comical all the same.
But it’s not quite so funny anymore when Declan’s mother shifts in her seat to look at her son. “I told you it was not a good idea to bring help to the family dinner.”
Would you say this book showcases your writing style or is it a departure for you?
Nothing fancy here! This is a typical Wicked Horse Vegas book with an alpha hero, sassy heroine, plenty of heat, and a beautiful HEA. My contemporary romance readers will love this addition to the series!
What do you want people to take away from reading this book?
Don’t always judge a book by its cover! Or more so…don’t always judge a billionaire by your first impression. 😉
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?
I am working on something completely new for 2021! An announcement will be coming mid-August, so make sure you’re following my social media and/or are on my mailing list for details. Readers will also see more from the Arizona Vengeance and Jameson Force Security in the new year.
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from wicked Billionaire:
The minute the master suite door closes, I breathe a sigh of relief that he’s gone. I absolutely can’t stand being in the presence of that man. Everything about him—from his perfectly wavy hair and GQ features to his arrogance sets my teeth grinding together.
I’m new at this job, only at it a few weeks, and cleaning the heir’s penthouse suite for roughly half that, he has yet to say “good morning” back to me when I arrive at his door. I mean… come on, jackass! How hard is it to just say hello to your peon workers?
Freaking one-percenters, entirely out of touch with us little folks.
I take in a deep breath, reach for my feather duster, and let it out slowly. Calm down, Bailey. Declan Blackwood isn’t your enemy, and he’s not the cause of your problems.
Which is true, but it’s just easier to throw my ire his way. I mean, the not replying to my morning greeting is irritating as hell.
Just plain rude.
In my mind, his name isn’t Declan. That first morning he opened the door, barely spared me a glance, and ignored my chirpy, “Good morning,” I’d officially renamed him Dicklan.
I snicker, thinking about it.
Dicklan, Dicklan, Dicklan.

Book Info:
As the prince of a luxury hotel empire, I am as close to American royalty as one can get. I grew up accustomed to a certain lifestyle. One where people give me what I desire and anything, or anyone, else can be bought. Everyone wants a piece of me, yet no one is actually deserving of my time.
That changes when Bailey Robbins, the smoking hot housekeeper in one of my hotels, catches my attention. Sure, she has curves for days but it’s her smart mouth I can’t help but be intrigued by. I may have avoided relationships all my life, but something about her makes me want to introduce her to my world.
The darker, wicked side of Declan Blackwood.
